Default I saw The Dish last night...WOW!

I was born in '71 so Footprints on the moon all my life. I had heard all the recordings and video feeds before, But never in the context like they presented in "The Dish".

the whole landing and first steps litereally had me on the edge of my seat, white knuckled. It was really bizzare because even though I knew what happened and how it turned out, I was feeling like I was in 1969, watching it live. I didn't realize it until he made historical "One small Step" statement and I let aut a huge, pent up breath of relief.

Fantastic movie. It will be purchased and placed right next to The Right Stuff and Apollo 13.

Entertaining family movie, but no documentary.

There are a few web sites that, at least in part, deal with the rights and bads of the movie. In the sum the movie makers apparently got much more right than they got wrong, even if they did combine facts and actions from different radio telescope sites into one: Parkes. E.g. Parkes couldn't speak directly with Houston; this was all relayed from Honeysuckle Creek etc.

But who cares? The movie is just wonderful! =D> I have it on DVD and enjoy it very often (even if there is one sentence that I can't understand). And as skrap1r0n stated above, it really captures the fascination of the moment and brings it back to life for us. Unlike skrap1r0n, I was born in '58 and remember the landing. I'm glad The Dish could make this exciting for someone who at the time was only a twinkle in his parents' eyes.

Well, actually it's one word, and it's not that I don't understand the meaning: I don't understand the word at all. I got out the DVD and the scene I mean is where they've decided to move the Dish despite the wind and are waiting for the moon to rise high enough on the horizon to get a signal (DVD timecode 01h 22' 08"):

Quote:
Mitch: "Glenn"
Glenn: "The moon's still not high enough"
Cliff: "Get her lower, Mitch"
Mitch: "I'm at 60,03, next stop's XXXXX"
Cliff: "Offset feed"
It's the XXXXX word I don't understand. ops: Can you help?

This reminds me of the old American TV commercial with Paul Hogan promoting Australia as a tourist destination. Paul thanks a bartender for a beer, and the bartender responds with "she's raw mite!" I still don't know what this is intended to convey!

It's "She's right, mate".

As an Australian I am prepared to translate, the missing word is "concrete".

I also agree with the earlier comments, the history may be off, but it does answer some of the HB comments, most importantly the one about how they got the picture of Armstrong going down the ladder.

Yep, Graham2001 has got it. Mitch says 'Next stop, concrete' to indicate that the dish has reached the limit of it's slew and can't go lower without hitting the ground.

On the same theme, can anyone with sharp ears tell me what Al mutters under his breath after the ambassador has left the Dish? He says something about 'I can't believe what I just did, it's got to be a felony' and then he mutters something under his breath, but I have never been able to work out what he says.

Anyone?

I think I can help there again, if I remember correctly the next part is something like "impersonating an astronaut in orbit" or something like that.

All this talk about The Dish is making me want to break out the video and watch it again .

I have to return the favor and then move over to the other thread, if applicable.

He's citing what he thinks the law would be.

I love that movie!

"The guy's a space nut, he knows everything about Apollo 11."
"Does he know where it is?"
