An unrehearsed teaching exercise
I am on an Adult Teaching course. Last night, we were split up into groups of four. In each group of four, one person had to deliver a two minute talk to the other three. The bit that made it edgy was that we had all of 30 seconds to plan the talk, and we didn’t know which one of us would have to deliver it.
As it happened, I was the one who had to deliver the two minute talk. I chose the moon hoax as my subject.
I began, “In 1969, the most remarkable event in history occurred...” I spoke about the landings, the live coverage, the samples and so on. I then went on to talk about the “harmful collective neurosis which plagues the 21st century” which is the hoax claim. I contrasted the real achievement with the sheer feebleness of the detractors’ arguments, and easily filled the two minutes.
The exercise wasn’t about the subject, of course, but afterwards one of the people in my group told me how amazed she was by my delivery. “As if you were reading it from a book!” she said.
It occurred to me then that although I am certainly not an expert on the subject, I do have a passion for it, and I’ve gained enough understanding from reading this BB that I can deliver such a talk at half a minute’s notice.
So, a big thank you to everyone who has fuelled my interest and given me easily-digestible information on the subject.
