Default Debunking on Discovery Canada

I'm surprised no one has posted about this yet. Ivan Semeniuk, a science journalist, does a pretty good debunking of the Fox show on Discovery Canada.

Here's the page, with a link to a lengthy video doing a good job debunking the hoax.

Surely, Canada is not a hoax...isn't it?

Phil, I saw that a while ago, (6 months ago?) after I read your book.

Ivan's great, but everything he mentioned was also in your book. I guess I should have posted it. Maybe I even saw it before I joined this forum.

I really enjoy watching Ivan's segments on astronomy. He used to be the director of the planetarium in Toronto.

Why don't you give him a call and see if you can do a segment on the show? You can even do a "live" interview with them. I'm sure he'd love to have you as a guest.

I'm suprised he didn't mention your book. When I saw saw the segment, I immediately thought you should have been a guest

Later

Pete

Actually, Bad Astronomy has been mentioned on the show before:

It's how I found out about the site.

Sorry, guys..2003..never heard of Phil or bad astronomy

I heard about Phil's book in Astronomy magazine. It took me a couple of months to buy the book and then a long time to actually become a member. When was that article?

Pete

Discovery has long since moved their files around on their servers since then...

I've been coming to the BA site for years and I still haven't bought Phil's book ops: so don't feel bad.

Shoot, I can't get the video to run in Firefox 1.0.2. I have just about every plug-in under the Sun. It won't run in IE either (after which attempt I then had to clean up the spyware that IE allowed in). Too bad the video can't be downloaded.

Careful - that's potentially a bannable offence!

Heck, I'm still trying to puzzle out how he got phpBB to display like that. Or, nawwww, it couldn't be a website page.

For something on topic. I was perusing the TV Guide website to see what was on. Can I import Discovery Canada? All they want to show here is Monster Garage and whatever that motorcycle show is. No wonder there's a problem with science education here...

I think Ivan Semeniuk made that video not too long after FOX aired that moon hoax show in 2001. I sent Ivan an email thanking him for doing it and he replied... thought I saved those emails but now I can't find them so I can't confirm the date.

Unfortunately Discovery Canada is the same... Monster Garage, American Chopper, Biker Build Off, etc. makes up a large chunk of their schedule.

I didn't buy it either, I conned my girlfriend into buying it for me.

Well actually my wife wanted her father to read it, which he did (good thing too). Unfortunately he doesn't... respect books (or other people's property apparently) to the degree that I do. So we ended up getting a new one after seeing the condition the first one was in. (I say 'seeing' because I still don't have it back... if it's even in one piece.)
