Seems the domain registration was renewed a little bit late. This can cause that some domain name servers have no entry for the domain, some still have. Currently, I can't "find" apollohoax.com. But it seems the bill was payed, so it should be findable soon. The site is still alive, put some of the Internet's "phone books" currently don't list the "phone number" for the name.

I still can not get it - Is Apollo Hoax gone forever now and all our postings lost?

Naw, give the system a few days to find it again.

It probably didn't have a fixed IP address, those are usually only used for dedicated servers and websites that deal with credit cards.

Since the registration info shows that it has been renewed until April 2006 and that the name servers are pointing to the correct location I think it should start working again soon. It can take about 72 hours for domains to activate because the info has to be shared with servers around the world.

The situation with Apollohoax.com is kind of wierd because it's ownership has been passed between at least two people, and I don't think even the original owner knew all the registration info.

Hmmm...I sense some kind of conspiracy in all this.

Yeah, that makes me nervous too. Some domain registrars will hide that information for you but it usually costs extra.

But it's usually not a huge amount. The host that I use charges $9 a year for "private registration services".

Well this is interesting...

Network Solutions and InterNIC both have this info:

Quote:
Domain Name: APOLLOHOAX.COM
Registrar: TUCOWS INC.
Whois Server: whois.opensrs.net
Referral URL: http://domainhelp.tucows.com
Status: REGISTRAR-HOLD
Updated Date: 17-apr-2005
Creation Date: 15-apr-2001
Expiration Date: 15-apr-2006
But the Registrar of Record has this:

Quote:
Registrar of Record: TUCOWS, INC.
Record last updated on 21-Apr-2003.
Record expires on 15-Apr-2005.
Record created on 15-Apr-2001.
Domain status: REGISTRAR-HOLD
They don't show the recent updates. I doubt NS and InterNIC are making it up, so there may be a problem with Tucows itself. It appears the record has been updated but the registrar isn't updating the root servers for some reason.

Why that may be I have no idea.

[edited because I hit SUBMIT instead of PREVIEW too early]

Okay, it's been over a week. Is this a fixable problem?

I'm not sure if John is even aware of the problem.

Unfortunately there isn't much I can do about it because it isn't my name on the registration and I don't know who to contact about the hosting. That and the fact that I can't afford to renew it myself.

I don't know if JayUtah would be willing to do this or not, but I was wondering if he would be willing/able to host the forum on his website. If he wants to do that I have a backup of the forum (although it's a few months old).
