Snopes.Com is a web page which covers various 'Urban Legends' and other wild tales.
A few months ago they set up a message board. Recently this thread on the 'Coke Bottle' story appeared.

Being the bloke who alerted JayUtah to the solution of the "Coca Cola bottle" mystery, I have written a long-winded reply to the original post, stating the facts and encouraging hoax believers to do some homework. Just waiting for my registration to be approved.
I'll have to start a new thread because of the first one being locked due to the mean-spirited behaviour there. Some people just don't have a clue about when to shut up. :-) |

I have chronic fatigue syndrome and because of the occasional associated poor memory and inability to think clearly, it often prevents me indulging in one of life's big pleasures -- having a good sensible, logical debate. Besides, ever since childhood I've detested conflict, so I'm not good at debating with hotheads at the best of times. In 2001 I got connected to the internet and a whole new world of intellectual stimulation opened up, particularly when I joined this wonderful bulletin board. The greatest benefit, for me, is that I can go away and carefully compose a reply -- there is no need to rush into print, no need to reply to someone within seconds. It's a wonderful medium for myself and others in similar circumstances and I just wish that some people would use bulletin boards the same way. Stop. Think. Take a deep breath and count to ten. Some people are experts at offending themselves and imagining slights where there are none. It's important that we sometimes ask ourselves if the writer really meant something the way we took it. Probably not. |

Thanks, Peter B.
I wanted to mention your username but couldn't for the life of me remember it for the reasons mentioned in the post above. Nor could I even remember how to look it up, which was simple enough, but at least I remembered Canberra, so I bravely soldiered on regardless. As usual, an hour or so later when doing something else, out of nowhere-in-particular came the thought, "Arrrggghhh! It's Peter B.!" As a Sydney relly put it, "The older I get, the better my forgettery gets." Now remember, Kiwi: Bob B., Peter B. Bob B., Peter B. Bob B., Peter B. ... |

What boggles my mind is how _anyone_ could identify anything resembling a bottle, let alone the print such a bottle would have, on the coarse resolution of the A11 EVA. Granted the live TV feed would have been slighly clearer (check out the pics on the Honeysuckle Creek website for a glimpse at the res directly incoming from the moon), but seeing a coke bottle? Come on.
As far as I know the only "tampering" so to speak of the A11 EVA is the restoration of the positive image during Armstrong's ladder descent. Again the A11 DVD available from the HSK website has this glitch intact. Furthermore, I am surely not the only one here who sees that most pro-hoax sites also include such themes as UFO's, alien abductions, and basically every shred of nonsense covered by such credible TV shows such as 'In Search of..."? Surely there is a link here... I personally stand in front of the two poster panoramas I have on the walls in my flat, and think that despite humanities extremely inhumane exploits throughout history, there are moments where we have achieved wonders that actually propel us forward for a change. The HBs want to rob us of this triumph. They believe that humanity is incapable of such trancendance. They believe that we are, all of us, lazy liars and cheats. In short, they believe that everyone is as rotten a soul as they are themselves. End of Rant.

The Una Ronald story is riddled with inconsistency and unsupported claims, most of which I cover in my Clavius review. Normally this would convince a historian that her story does not have much merit.
One of those inconsistencies is precisely that the video quality is so bad, how could Una Ronald make out a Coke bottle -- and identify it as such? Una is convinced the bottle is in the video itself, but does not offer a reconciliation. David Percy and Mary Benett wrap an entirely different scenario around Una's story and in the process "clean up" her inconsistencies, even when it means denying what she said she saw. |

Pepsi-Cola and Coca-Cola date to approximately the same time in the 19th century (although Coke did come first) and were both around during Apollo. Interestingly, Coca-Cola at one time was in a position to buy Pepsi-Cola, thus eliminating its rival. They declined, believing that Pepsi would decline on its own.
