That's odd. In this article Sam Russell laments about how Ed Fendell failed to track the ascending Apollo 17 LM with the LRV camera - the result being that the module drifted out of view at the top of the frame.
However, if you go to the ALSJ and watch the footage there you can see quite plainly that the LM does not drift out of view and that it is visible all the way through pitchover and for several seconds after that (only then does it move out of view at the left-hand side of the frame). Apparently Fendell was quite annoyed that he had missed the mark, but the footage shows that he timed the camera movement perfectly.
Was Russell talking about Apollo 16 and misremembering the event? Or were the TV transmissions viewed from Mission Control clipped at the top of the frame for some strange reason?
