There was an advert for Goodyear for their new puncture resistent tyres, which said, "The company to put the first tyre on the moon..." Is that true?

I'd have to see the advert again to see if the LRV was actually shown, but I definitely don't think they would have shown a shopping trolley.

Glom, i saw this ad strategicaly placed in the final ad break in "The Behind The Moon Landings" featuring Jay on C5. It showed the new "run on flat" tyre rolling superimposed on a shot of an astronaut "bunny hopping" on the lunar surface (not sure who/what mission) and then another of it rolling in front of the LEM. It kinda irritated me as i recall reading some CNs site where he made a big thing about the fact that the LR in NASM had pnumatic tyres.
Given the way they think, i saw this ad. as adding fuel to their fire. #-o edited to add: IIRC the entire LRV including the tyres was designed/built by Boeing at their Kent, Washington site. |

The LRV had a kind of wire frame tyre, that was not pneumatic. However, the LRV Training vehicle used on earth prior to the launches did have pneumatic tyres. As mentioned above (I think...) it was the little "caddy kart" they used on 12 and 14 (I think) that had pneumatic tyres, but I would suggest this would look a little silly if they actually showed this in the advert! So they are just "stretching the truth" by portraying just a tyre, and allowing the viewer to make the (wrong!) mental connection! Advertising always was devious.... :^o

However, I wish my golf trolley looked like that! At least I would have something else to play with once I had lost all my balls..... ![]()
