Default How are going the attempts to picture the landing sites?

I have heard of, at least, three future attempts to picture the landing sites:

* The VLT (I don´t know how they are going to do this, as I suppose this telescope is inside Earth´s atmosphere).

* The SMART-1, wich has already arived, but I heard nothing about it since then.

* A japanese probe, wich I forgot the name. It´s launch seems to be constantly postponed.

Does anybody have any news about them?

Forget the VLT - Definition wont be good enough, even with the adaptive optics. Also, and same for space based observation. The glare from the Moon will be incredible...trying to get enough contrast, even in low light, will be super tough

Dont know anything about the probe. Remember hearing it would launch. Maybe the blue torch paper is wet or something....Or maybe NASA is having trouble finding out where Kulbrick hid the orginal props when he faked the landing back in 69.

Or just maybe they found a better use for the money than to recover old scientific ground

Why bother?? The evidence is extremely clear that men have walked on the moon. Take pictures of the landing site and the HBers will claim that the pictures are faked. For any rational person who really wants to know the truth, there is hundreds of times more evidence than necessary to convince them. The others will never be convinced; not even if you fly them to the moon and leave them there!!

I think it's worth doing someday just because it's cool. Don't even tell the HBs, for all I care, but I really want to see a picture of one of those sites. Of course, there are plenty more important things to spend the public's money on.

There are some Japenese satellites orbiting the moon but I suppose they don't have the capability.

Now, about whether or not we went to the moon..

The fact is, we can sit and chat away on our favourite site, and call all the non-believers 'woo-woos' or whatever the phrase is, but you just take a look at Mr Average in the street.

Most haven't got a clue whether or not the landings were real and don't give a monkeys one way or another. For many people it was just something which has barely made the history books and happened in many cases before they were even born.

From time to time you get these programmes on which 'prove' the landings were faked, and all these people watch them, agree with them and forget about it five minutes later.

Folks really don't care, folks.

Space exploration has been taken over by science fiction.

That's the mistake the Yanks made. They didn't go back and nail their claim, so all the predictions of tourist ships to the moon by 2000 never materialised, and probably won't before 2050.

That's just the way it is.

That's The REAL Problem ... Apathy!

If we Can't Even Get People Excited, about The Single Greatest Achievement of Human History; Then how Can we Ever, Get them Excited about the Current, Especially Without the Shuttle, Ho-Hum, Space Flights?

It's Simple ... We Can't!

Now, about those History Books ...

More like Funding, but you've Got a Point ...

Unfortunately, The Moon Shot, wasn't Much More, than Cold War PR.

If, It had Actually Been about The Science ...

Hopefully this Time, we'll Do It, Riight!

Sorry, my reply wasn't directly aimed at your post; just the entire topic in general. But what's wrong with space? Surely there's enough of it to go around. :P
