Well I might be wrong, but I'd imaging that the original transparencies are stored in a dark and well controlled enviroment safe. Not only to keep them from degrading, but because they would be priceless.

They are kept well locked away in a fridge.
A complete thumbnail overview is at http://www.lpi.usra.edu/resources/apollo/

JSC has recently begun to get the originals out of the locker and do some high-resolution scans of them. They are step by step added (or replacing older scans) in the image gallery of the Project Apollo Archive.

Harald brings up an excellent point and website. Check out the Apollo 11 scans.

Now that more and more high resolution images are available, many of the HBs claims vanish (Jack White in particular). For example, Jack White claims that you can't see Buzz Aldrin's antenna in some of the photographs. The reason is that he is using a low-res scan and the thin wire just doesn't show up. On the high-res scans it is there.

It is there in the new scans, because it has been added!
You really think you can fool Jack White that easily?

In English Law as I understand it, a digital image is not admissable evidence. For a photograph to be accepted in a court of Law, the photographer must appear and swear on oath that they are the photographer and has in their posession the unadulterated negative.

So digital images, no matter what the resolution are not evidence. [-X

Or maybe there were there all the time and Jack removed them.

that's a pretty good idea, though i'd modify it slightly... at least, allow the jury to see such photos with the caveat that the information may be suspect. in the US, a good attorney would shred such evidence (figuratively) on cross. unfortunately, good attorneys are rare. unfortunately as well, i'm at work and can't check half of these sites...
