Greetings!

Let me be the first to say that I believe that Kaysing himself was a hoax. He never existed and his image was created be certain entities who love a good joke!

Regards, tbm

Default HB is why I'm here

Just my 2 cents,

It is because of the HB claims that I also am here. I inherited my Father's enthusiasm for the Apollo missions, and would unashamedly admit to watching the Apollo 11 downlink to people who asked me what my interests were.

It was while living in the UK that I was greeted with the "you actually believe they landed on the moon do you?" comment. This then fuelled my interest into seeing what claims were being made, and off to the internet I googled. (By the way the above staement in no way is meant to infer that UK citizens are stupid). Prior to this, I had heard of HB claims but these were limited to the fringe theory 'science' magazines, and so I paid little mind to them.

Lo and behold I came across BA and Clavius. Reading through the discussions of rational thought was like a breath of fresh air. Also, thanks to the DVD sets by Mark Gray, my knowledge of the Apollo missions has increased exponentially.

So there is some good out of the HB con.

Sincerely,
Dwight

This thread has been around for a week now, and every time I see the subject line, my mind fills with images of Munchkins marching around & singing...

Another blogger picking up on Phil´s BAB-log:

http://porlockjr.blogspot.com/2005/0...r-airhead.html

"Requiem for an airhead

Bill Kaysing, who originated the hoax that the Moon landings were a hoax, is dead. Has been for months, but it was just announced. The Bad Astronomy blog has a report that has an interesting take: in addition to being a gentleman who observes de mortuis nil nisi bonum, the BABlogger finds that that abominable bit of work has had good side effects in getting many people interested in the reality of the Apollo program.

Read the comments, too. It's a bit of a shock to see how many people testify to their own birth or rebirth of interest thanks to Kaysing et al. Even more of a hoot: when a comment finally treats the old fraud as roughly as he deserves, it's by a Canadian! Sorry about the stereotyping, and happy Canada Day; Porlock Senior didn't take out Canadian citizenship for nothing.

I think it's just human nature to have bittersweet feelings about the death of an "intellectual opponent"; a sort of "end of an era" feeling. How did Woodward and Bernstein feel about Nixon's death after so much investigation, and thinking about it? (maybe too big of an example) How does one feel when their fellow contemporary, who they've argued with for years at the university, is suddenly gone? Obviously Kaysing and that FOX video had a pronounced effect: I've heard it from people who don't even bother to investigate it, much like the comment Dwight got from someone, though mostly I get, "I don't know for sure, anything is possible" (meaning our govt lying about the moon landings). All it took was one comment, and a bit of Googling to end up here, and then stumble across some other things of interest. After reading Clavius and the like, it feels right to have a better sense of why it wasn't a hoax, and to spread the word....or at the very least, to question one's own motives or reasons for doubt.

From what I've read, I'm not really sure how deep Kaysing's doubts were--the why of his doubts and beliefs. Maybe somebody can explain.

Default Bill Kaysing

I don't know if I have ever mentioned here that I knew Bill Kaysing personally back in the 70s. He was a pleasant guy in person, and often very witty.

In his defense, I have to say that he was not a rich man and the Moon Hoax books and appearances did a lot to provide him with financial and personal security in his later years. This is not a justification for his career as what amounts to a con-artist, but it is an understandable temptation for those who find it within their power to take advantage of public gullibility and who face a bleak future otherwise.

I once got an email from Bart Sibrel's ex-wife thanking me for my Web page debunking the moon hoax. I asked whether she thought Bart actually believed his own nonsense. Unfortunately I no longer have her reply due to a computer crash, but I'll paraphrase as best as I remember: Yes, he really does believe Apollo was fake, but more importantly, having financial backers with more money than brains has finally brought Bart the lifestyle he has always sought.

gillianren, that's very sweet. I'm glad you feel that way!

And Sibrel was in the Fox show, though briefly. He says shadows in the Apollo images can be seen to intersect. Intersect! I have never, ever seen that. He means "converge", but he does have trouble with saying things that are accurate.
