Sometimes, I think a good old fashioned butt kicking is a beneficial learning experience*. After this incident, I doubt Sibrel went around getting in other peoples' faces, calling them liars and thieves. Buzz taught him that such crass actions can have painful consequences.

*My wife tells me that wife beating is rare in her native Philippines. Women tend to have large extended families there. Should some husband beat his wife, he'll soon get confronted by her father and a large cadre of brothers, cousins, etc. who will procede to teach him the error of his ways. She says it's understood and even the husband's family knows the score.

If anybody felt bad for insulting Spam, the world would be a lot poorer in humour.

Depends upon what you mean by immature, I guess. Was the space race immature, in your opinion?

Well, if the saying goes "better late than never", then what about very, very early?

I think my apology would be more along the lines of "Hello, Mr. Filmmaker? I'm sorry that you are a hack with spam for brains."

Oh, pooh-pooh. Sometimes one has to defend one's physical space when it is intentionally (and in Aldrin's case, repeatedly) violated.

What did you expect Buzz to do, allow Sibrel to use his cellulite to bowl him over and then, as would behoove a former astronaut expressing a mature response while reclining on the ground, yell "Come and see the violence inherent in the system. Help! Help! I'm being repressed!"?

Bravo, Buzz!

BTW, this thread's pretty healthy for being a six-year-old-timer.

Yep, a very cool thread, about eighteen months old though. You should try and avoid resurrecting old threads unless you have something substantive to add to them.

Did you have to post this right after my "welcome" post??

Kidding, of course...

Well maybe I can add something substantive to this thread , my wife brought home a new book for me last week, knowing of my interest in all things Apollo, "Magnificent Desolation" by Buzz Aldrin , basically an autobiography covering the years after 1969.

Towards the end there's an account from buzz's side of the confrontation with Sibrel, including the almost universal acclaim he received from the media after the event , oh and he managed never to mention Sibrels name once

Blessings on him!

Boppa, the issue is, for one, that he posted in an old thread without mentioning that he had, which I do think is polite to mention. Second, you may notice that the issue is the substantive nature of the post.

Badsciencemonk, I'm sorry if we seem rude, and I'm sorry if you take offence. Please don't take it as a symbol that we don't want you. You have just fallen into the crossroads of a couple of varying debates.

Just had a look at BS' site for a laugh and couldn't help noticing that he has mis-spelt his URL.

http://www.moonmovie.com/

Surely there should be an 'r' in between the two 'o's.

Well he Magnificently left Bart with a Desolation of a punch, right on the chops!

You get away from me! [oomph!]

I was curious to how low the Buzz-Lite-Punch was in terms of low end frequency. The warm red spots are the wind fluttering on the microphone. The highlighted yellow is the Buzz-Lite-Punch effect!

He’s not? Well maybe retired lightweight boxer then.

I could swear he was former U.S. Marines? Well maybe the other astronauts are then.

Buzz went to West Point , and then the US Airforce , first to Korea, then to Bitburg in Germany .. no Marine corps involvement at all ..

John Glenn on the other hand was a "MiG Mad Marine" ....(nose art on his F-86E Sabre)

IMHO Sibrel had it coming.

I wouldn't punch him in the nose though, I'd....do what Bobby did in the King of the Hill episode "Bobby Goes Nuts." Him, along with Kaysing, Ralph Rene, and all the other Moon Hoax idiots.
