I too need to apologize to Cig for my snippy reply. Its way to easy to jump to the wrong conclusions after seeing the trolls come and go here.
It seems clear that Cig is a first timer here looking for answers and not looking to start a fight. He deserves better than what I gave him. I'm sorry. |

cigarette_repairman, I'm glad you weren't offended, and it didn't look like you were. My point was more to call attention to a pattern of behavior to perhaps keep us from repeating it. Labeling someone an HB just for asking a question is wrong, in my opinion. Not that HB is a derogatory term so much as it is a description of position of belief, one that does not adequately describe someone who wants an answer to a question posed by an HB. And jumping on you for asking a question just might make the next curious person hesitant.
g99, if my tone reads a little harsh (especially the last sentence), I'm sorry, too. It just bugs me to be so sloppy when we regularly chide the Sibrels for not taking care with what they say. |

I am so incredibly flabergasted by the HBs obsession with these crosshairs in the photographs. Despite the fact that a perfectly reasonable, and sound explaination: photograph bleeding, has been given, it remains such a cornerstone for their arguement. Let's adopt the assumption (for a brief moment) that the photographs were taken on some kind of set or stage. It is reasonable to assume, that what these neurotic conspiracy theorists are saying to us, that NASA, with it's $30 billion dollar "movie budget", somehow came to the conclusion that it would be more convenient to place these photographic cross-hairs directly on the background matte-painting. And that they would do this in light of such simpler techniques that could be applied, such as placing a filter on the lens of the camera, or even on the developer during processing of the photographs. Of course, these are the same people who have questioned the aerodynamic properties of the LM as a major problem, and then gone on to explain the physics of particulate projectiles travelling under the influence of gravity in a VACUUM. Of course, I'm alluding to Jim Collier's silver-bullet documentary: "Was it a paper moon?", for which so many of these HBs praise.
But I guess my point is, why do we even bother to entertain these peoples arguments? This Moon Landing Hoax has always been a topic of great interest for me with people; especially with my international friends. I have come to the conclusion that a great majority of these HBs can be summed up into two groups of people: 1. Neurotic Anti-Americans, who gawk and anything and everything American. It is more convenient to these peoples geopolitical opinions to discount something like this as yet another U.S. rape of the world. 2. Anti-secularists, who also find it more convenient for their ancient theological beliefs to assume this is a made-for-TV movie by the seculars (with the aid of the forces of evil) to steal peoples souls. These people need to be ignored, not entertained. Let's debate some interesting science. |

The two categories you give here are good in international circles, but they don't really explain the home-grown American hoax believers. The third type I see are the rabid anti-governmental types; paranoid big-brother-is-watching-you cynical old grumps. A fourth type is the huckster, the ones who are out there to make a buck or gain some measure of fame from their crusade. The last kind seem to be the ones most often really pushing the hoax.

Ok in these two [url=http://www.geocities.com/maxim_recoil/A17bgsame1.jpg]photos[url]
The explainatation that the mountains won't move so far if you move quite a distance only goes so far. Try using the code tag. It will font what you put between the tags in a constant width font (courier). I use it for all ascii art.
<code> stuff here </code> except use the square brackets instead of angle brackets. |
