They are a real radio station from Bridgeport, CT, publishing that sort of drivel?? They should lose their license - they are not acting responsibly, as their charter to act as a public trustee calls for them to do.

Sorry, I didn't see the humor? It seemed to me that they were being serious - I guess I should lighten up!

I remember when Sky & Telescope published that full color Mars panoramic view as a two sided foldout. I bought two issues and placed both sides of the picture together under glass. (That was before it was available as a single poster.) Stunning view. Looks like one could walk right out there among the boulders, (but a spacesuit will be necessary.) Radio stations are certainly allowed to make jokes, but deadpan humor isn't always obvious. And since some people really do believe in stuff like faked space missions, there's a lot of ambiguity in the page.

The best thing to do when writing that sort of humor is either spill the beans at the end, or else include something that's clearly preposterous (even to a hoax believer).

The website says "In fact, NASA fell into great favor with Hollywood for its cinematic technique and impressive use of special effects, earning the great respect and admiration of Rick Baker and Industrial Light and Magic. NASA's television broadcast of the simulated Apollo 11 moon landing is now commonly considered to be amongst the towering landmarks in the history of cinematic achievements."

That's hard to miss.

I have been a fan of Rick Baker's work for years and find it hard to believe that he's an HB. Anyone heard this anywhere else?

Oh, it was tongue in cheek. Only how can you tell when real HBs use equally unbelievable info?

Oh well, I am reminded of the immortal words of the poet John Lillith:

Oh point birds, a pointy pointy
Anoint my head, anointy nointy

Classic & also:

in dillman's grove, my love did die.
and now in ground shall ever lie.
none could ever replace her visage.
until your face brought thoughts of kiss-age.

James McIntyre, the Cheese Poet
aka "Canada's Worst Poet"

excerpt from Ode on the Mammoth Cheese
Weighing Over 7,000 Pounds

Quote:
We'rt thou suspended from balloon,
You'd cast a shade even at noon,
Folks would think it was the moon,
About to fall and crush them soon.

OK Gang, the Bad Astronomy is hard enough to take without having to wade through Bad Poetry.

OK, I take it back. It's not as hard to miss as I thought.

Still, I think one of the things that the HBs excel at is jumping on an interpretation of events/evidence too quickly, without carefully considering the implications or the possibilities. I think we should avoid doing the same, when others are trying to introduce some levity.
