The computer mainframes at my old University were named after the Dwarves from the Hobbit.

Thorin, Ori, Nori, Dori, Oin and Gloin

This is what I don't understand about this Mars conspiracy stuff. What would be NASA's motive in covering up or destroying evidence of ancient civilizations? It seems to me that the surest way to get Congress to pull the plug on Mars exploration is to continue to find little more than chunks of basalt. The way to keep all of those scientists and engineers employed is to find something really cool -- like ancient artifacts.

Ah, there you go trying to follow conspiracy-buff logic from a non-conspiracy viewpoint.

It's the same problem as trying to argue that no large-scale government cover-up has ever managed to last. From the conspiracy viewpoint, no conspiracy is an isolated and unlikely event. Instead, hiding artifacts on Mars goes hand-in-hand with Apollo hoaxes, HARP weather control, chemtrails, and so on and so forth. When every third person on the street is a member of some secret organization, it becomes easy to assume that all of science, engineering, history, and logic itself as we know it is suspect.

a couple of years ago, i took one of the newer hi res pics of the "face" on Mars, and played with the size in my trusty microsoft photo editor.
after reducing it in size a few times, then blowing it back up, every detail and proportion looked EXACTLY like the pic from the Viking days.
i thought that was kind of cool- and it kind of showed me what a difference optical resolution makes in how we perceive things.
try it...
