Jay Leno was quizzing some absolute morons on his show last night. Among the absolutely hilarious failures to answer simple questions was:

Q. What did Neil Armstrong say when he walked on the moon?
A. He didn't say nothing; he had that bubble over his head.

Sadly, I don't think so.

One question he asks a lot is "How long does it take in order for the earth to go around the sun one time?" or to that effect. I've heard every answer spoken from one day to many years.

Some of them are priceless:

Q. How was Korea divided?
A. In half?

While I'm tempted to believe that some of these quizzes might be staged, simply because no one could really be that dumb, I often find evidence on my own that indeed people really can be that dumb.

Just watch any "reality TV" show. High-speed car chases and such. People can be so stupid I'm almost afraid to go out of my door sometimes. I am absolutely not surprised at all that these answers are real.

I do think that Leno edits out the people that get the answers all right, and it wouldnt' surprise me at all. I think that only one time that I can recall he ever showed someone getting basically all of them right.

But you can test out his results pretty easily. Start asking people some easy questions that they should know the answer to and see how many blank stares you get. I was once talking with my old assistant about something that Leno did on a jaywalking segment, and she didn't know the answer either (can't recall the question, I think it was some easy history question.)

My personal favourite was:

Q: Who won the Civil War?
A: We did.

See http://www.nbc.com/nbc/The_Tonight_S...no/jaywalking/
For clips from some of the Jaywaking episodes. Some are really funny. They had last time's "Battle of the Jaywalk all-stars" too. Not the latest's sadly.

I highly suggest the geography quiz.
Quote:
Jay:What country is directly north of South Korea?

person:Ummm...[long pause]Help people! [asks the crowd] What state is north of south korea?
Quote:

Jay: The u.s. is located b/t what two countries?

Person: [long pause]I don't know?

Jay: O.K. If you go North what country do you end up in?

Person: Canada

Jay: If you go south what country do you end up in?

Person: umm..i don't know

Jay: What is the other language people speak in L.A.?

Person: umm..Spanish?

Jay: So what country would be next?

Person: Spain?

G99: hahahahahaha!!

The TV show street smarts pretty much stole the leno idea and made a half hour out of it. Its kind of like Bizarro-Jeopardy.

Yes! This is true from my experience as well! I have even asked people how many moons does the earth have and people say all sorts of answers. Then they say that they think it is a trick question, they say, because of "whole moons" and "quarter moons" etc.

Also, after the shuttle disaster I heard people comment, "can't they just fly up and wait on the moon?" Most people have no clue how far awy the moon is or what it would take to go there and come back.
