Question Indigo Children??

OK, I give up, what is the deal with this? According to something I encountered on C2C....Hyperactive Children are actually "Indigo" and sent to save the world.....I thought that the main function of Hyperactive Children was to distract Sister Mary Athagnatious, so I could read in peace in the 3rd grade.......

Warning, this is a "woo" site:

Introduction to Indigo Children

Quote:
Indigo Children are the current generation being born today and most of those who are 8 years old or younger. They are different. They have very unique characteristics that set them apart from previous generations of children. The name itself indicates the Life Color they carry in their auras and is indicative of the Third Eye Chakra, which represents intuition and psychic ability. These are the children who are often rebellious to authority, nonconformist, extremely emotionally and sometimes physically sensitive or fragile, highly talented or academically gifted and often metaphysically gifted as well, usually intuitive, very often labeled ADD, either very empathic and compassionate OR very cold and callous, and are wise beyond their years. Does this sound like yourself or your child?
...
The Indigo Children are the ones who have come to raise the vibration of our planet! These are the primary ones who will bring us the enlightenment to ascend.

and to think that all these years i thought it was caused by parents not being parents and letting the kids do whatever they want, whenever they want, without any repercussions beyond taking a 5 minute "time out" in their bedroom with nothing but a tv, video games, and thousands of $$ of toys to keep them occupied until they say they are sorry..

Uh oh! I'm not so sure I like the "crystal children":

Quote:
The Crystal Children began to appear on the planet from about 2000, although some date them slightly earlier. These are extremely powerful children, whose main purpose is to take us to the next level in our evolution, and reveal to us our inner power and divinity. They function as a group consciousness rather than as individuals, and they live by the" Law of One" or Unity Consciousness. They are a powerful force for love and peace on the planet.
Is it just me, or does this sound kind of like The Borg!

With all the ADD going around, this is a very marketable concept.

One, i'm sure there are lot of Science/Medicine illiterate people looking for ANY cure they can to make their kid stop destroying their house (any cure that is, except dicipline)

I'm sure many of those people are uninformed enough to want to beleive that their kids are special in a good way. are there any "if you want to know more, buy my book" sections on these web pages?

Not only the parents. I recently saw a TV interview with one of these indigo children, and she was convinced that she was "special". She had completely "bought in" to the whole idea.

Poor kid doesn't stand a chance...

Criminy! That description is broad enough to include every child! For starters, you have such blatent contradictions as "either very empathic and compassionate OR very cold and callous." "Rebellious to authority" and "very often labeled ADD" are often at odds with "academically gifted". I also noticed the word "or" between "highly talented" & "academically gifted". OK, so the kid's a rock in school; but what parent doesn't take a drawing of a house, a tree and Mr. Sun and say how talented their kid is? I have yet to meet a child of 8 or less who isn't a "nonconformist," and "extremely emotionally and sometimes physically sensitive". Heck, when we meet an adult who acts this way, we usually say they are "...acting like a child!"

Whatinhell is "metaphysically gifted"?!

Here's a test: Try listing the opposite of all of these characteristics, and try to remember any parent who described their kids in these terms.

"Why no, my child has never said anything beyond her years."

<grumble-grumble> Pack them off to the Ayn Rand School for Tots, I say!

I met someone online once who was convinced that he was an indigo child, he'd find threads on a forum and try to show how he was superior to everyone else in the thread by completely changing the topic to how the adults were messing up the world and how we all had to much anger and had to do stuff with our auras, etc.

When asked for any specifics about what an indigo child was, or what they could do he'd either get very vague, or copy stuff directly from pro-Indigo children websites, it was obvious that he didn't know what it meant, but that his parents had simply told him he was one and what he was supposedly able to do.

First, that sounds a bit like the person who started this thread, last year and I now wonder if he thought he was an indigo child.

I was especially worried when he stated that people ('the West'.) should be:

The name itself indicates the Life Color they carry in their auras

But...what about those of us who's Life Color is Mauve. Damnit! This is so unfair.

indicative of the Third Eye Chakra

I always wondered. Is there a 2nd eye Chakra, or a 4th?

These are the children who are often rebellious to authority, nonconformist, extremely emotionally

Oh yeah. That's never happened before in Human history.

and sometimes physically sensitive or fragile

I knew when they began to disregard Phys. Ed. that there would be problems.

metaphysically gifted as well

What does that mean, exactly? They can channel the spirits of the deceased Cats of the famous?

very often labeled ADD

Yes, I always think "Third eye Chakra" when I meet people with ADD.

either very empathic and compassionate OR very cold and callous

Oh. Social workers and frustrated social workers.

and are wise beyond their years.

Yes, and then expend their energies writing Malware.

The Indigo Children are the ones who have come to raise the vibration of our planet!

I prefer the vibration at 400 HZ, thanks. Stop trying to mess with it.

These are the primary ones who will bring us the enlightenment to ascend.

When I want to "ascend," I take an airplane somewhere.

Hmm, would I say that my son is occasionally upset, do I think he's clever, and is he occasionally naughty?

Wow, I guess it must be a supernatural effect!

Default Re: Indigo Children??

At first glance I thought this was going to about a variety of "blue babies", but its location in the CT forum should have tipped me off.

My son used to be an "indigo child", so to speak. Then I divorced his mother, got custody, fired all the psychological and social worker "experts", and raised him in a well-structured, "tough love" type of environment.

The only times he really looked "blue" or "indigo" were when the old "hold your breath until your parent gives in" routine was tried. He rapidly found out that what worked with his mother didn't work with his father. The screaming fits, while they lasted, were kind of fun. He'd do his best for a few minutes, then I'd yell down the hall, "Is that the best you can do? Heck, I can scream louder than that without even taking a breath! Come on, do better!" It eventually sunk in that he was having no effect on me whatsoever and that I found the whole act rather humorous, and that was the end of the screaming fits.

In general he returned to and stayed a normal color, had a good childhood, and a few decades later is enjoying life with his wife of two years, and doing very well.

As for this particular brand of woo, sounds like yet more old "New Age" deli meat, the kind thats pegs the baloney detector.
