Sure, but a Saturn V and all the fuel are pretty expensive in their own right.

It might be doable.

Well the really silly thing is that the equipment for Apollo's 18,19 and 20 were all already built and payed for. The rovers, LM's and basic equipment such as suits, are now in various mueseums worldwide, one Sat-V was used to launch Skylab, one is on display at Houston and one at JFK, while I believe the CSM's were used for the Apollo 18/Soyuz mission and the Skylab ones.

Warning: thread revived.

It's time.

Bad Astronomy Blog: Mythbustin’ the Moon Hoax… Part I

Quote:
I’m starting to receive a trickle of email informing me that the Mythbusters are tackling the Moon Hoax myth.

Yes, well, I need to divulge a secret: I know about it. I served as an informal advisor on the show.

[...]the show will air on April 25. Mark your calendars! I know I’ll be watching, especially since I don’t know how exactly they tackled one or two of the issues we discussed.

Yep, the Bad Astronomer is advising; I also helped a bit too. I can't wait to see this episode.

I'll be interested to see how they bust this one. Are they going to build a spaceship and go to the moon? This one sort of seems out of their area.

I don't want to give away too much. No, they're not going to the Moon. But they are examining the properties of some elements of the physical world such as vacuum, heat, gravity, and illumination that conspiracy theorists habitually get wrong.

Maybe Phil meant April 23 which is a Wednesday and the usual slot for the show? April 25 is a Friday. (There's a small amount of chatter on the confusion in the BA Blog replies but no clarity on the MB site).

I checked the Discovery Channel site yesterday, but their episode guide only went out a few weeks (then ending April 3).

Yeah, I'd recommend checking there a couple of weeks from now, and/or just being alert the week that includes April 25.

Edit: Update from BA Blog:

Quote:
Fourth, the show will air on April 25. Mark your calendars! Update: I’ve been told the episode does not air April 25. The air date has not been set yet, but I’ll make sure I announce it when it is!

Oops. I missed this last page of posts. I was about to post a link to this article, which lists the top 10 myths they will NOT try to bust...and I was going to playfully point out that the moon hoax/apollo missions are not one of the ten...and playfully suggest that this is evidence that they just may do a show about them.

...but BA and Jay's posts are slightly better evidence of such a possibility. Regardless, yay!

ETA: "BA and Jay's" sounds like a good name for an eatery. Perhaps you two can partner in the business venture; a resturant that specializes in moon pies and eggs (sunny-side up, of course).

We could start a game over in that forum to come up with funny names for items on the menu: "Hoax Believers Scramble", etc.

It's more than a possibility. As of early February, much of it had been shot.

As long as the conspiracists end up with egg on their faces.

Yeah, the "slightly better evidence" was sarcastic... well, I'm not sure sarcastic's the right word... um... but yeah. I meant that jokingly (I need my coffee)

Default Mythbusters Moon Hoax: Wednesday, August 27

BA Blog: Mythbustin’ the Moon Hoax: Part 2

So the Mythbusters are taking on the Moon Hoax, as I previously reported. However, there was some confusion over the air date. Well, I can confidently tell you that it will air on Wednesday, August 27.

It will be an interesting show.
As good as those guys are though, I bet even an amateur like myself will be saying at times. "Why didn't they just do this..."
"If only they did this then it would..."
"Gee, they forget to do this..."
"Man, I can't believe they didn't do..."
"If only they did it this way..."

Ya think?
Just wait till the HB start using parts of the show in their Moon Hoax videos on You Tube. And if Jay is in it, Jarrah will overtrack the audio with his own Jayish voice, distorting any semblance to what really was going on. Or taking clippets out of context to support their dumb theories...

I didn't appear on camera; I only provided scientific background. To my knowledge the Bad Astronomer was not interviewed on camera either. I'm only hoping to get an acknowledgement in the end credits. But when they go to recreate the lunar surface photography, and Grant say, "The experts tell us..." then that's when the cheer goes up in my living room.

And I can say I've corresponded with an expert who helped on the show!
Right now, I can only say that I know a guy who did CGI bloodspots on a few frames of film on the movie 300.

You must be very hungry. I don't recall an episode on where to eat lunch, for example.

Besides, why eat lunch if you just finished one of those big nutritious cereal boxes for breakfast?

And don't forget that wasabi sauce with jalepeno peppers... Yum.

Ah, when I was more into CG (just before going to school for it, where all my dreams were squshed lol) I use to talk to a guy who worked on the effects for one of BAUT's favorite movies: Armeggedon.

A couple of months ago I was at Apache Point Observatory and met a couple of the people involved in a lunar laser ranging program they have there. They were quite excited that the Mythbusters folks had come through and were eagerly awaiting to see it aired.

I'm quite excited too. I think, if done right, it could do a great deal of good for convincing the "average joe fence-sitter" out there of what amazing acomplishments we as humans have achieved.

BA Blog: Mythbustin’ the Moon Hoax: Part III, the video

Quote:
Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman, the Mythbusters, were at Comic Con last week. They did a panel discussion of the show (moderated by Bill Prady, one of the producers of The Big Bang Theory), and were great (as usual).

They started off their panel with a bang — a fantastic trailer for their upcoming episode on the Moon Hoax! [YouTube video, about 60 seconds]
