In response to an FOIA request, the Pentagon today will be releasing separate videos from surveillance cameras that is expected to show American Airlines flight 77 impacting the Pentagon. The release is scheduled for 1PM EDT.

A reporter for FNC who was allowed to screen the video pre-release stated that the video "clearly shows" the nose of AA77 striking the facility.

Apparently the footage will be from two different cameras, one or both operating at 2fps and both of which captured the impact.

This is very similar to the situation that will inevitably arise when the Apollo landing site images that show hardware are finally obtained.

I would not be suprised if DOD or DOJ hosts it, since it will be in the public domain after release. Presumably some news sites will have it as featured video as well.

I'm not a woo-woo (nor have I played one on television, nor did I stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night, ... ), but even I have to ask this one simple question:

WHY DID IT TAKE SO LONG?

I mean it has been four years plus eight months, two election years (2002 and 2004), two wars, etc. and they are FINALLY releasing these pictures NOW?

This should have been released at least four years ago. The woo-woos will have a field day for just this reason!

And Celestial Mechanic, the reasons the video might not've been released are plentiful. Maybe it took this long to obtain permission from the owners of the cameras, who are the only ones with the copyright and therefore the right to release it into the public domain.

I think a lot of it is that the woos think that TPTB should be taking them seriously and giving them exactly what they ask for no matter what because they play some important watchdog role. I've found that even the kookiest ones think they are of the utmost importance and should be paid the most serious attention.

In the real world, however, the evidence that a passenger jet hit the Pentagon is overwhelming; what difference really does an additional couple snippets of grainy video matter?

There are two optons:
1. It's just like 911 calls or black box recordings. They don't normally release that stuff because it's just so traumatic for everyone involved. Note that in the case of the 9/11 911 recordings, they have released the operator's side of the recordings, but they edited out what the passengers said. This sort of thing is normal. I'm sure that there are hundreds of people out there right now who had loved one's die in the pentagon or aboard the AA77 who are now looking at pictures of the exact moment their loved one died and feeling pretty bad about it. And for what? How does this video help us?

2. the powers that be don't like it when you use size=5 so they held on to the video just to make you angry.

CNN reports that the release of the footage was delayed until the conclusion of Z. Moussaoi's trial, suggesting it was or might have been evidence in that trial. This has been one of the reasons commonly speculated for having withheld the footage, and is generally consistent with jurisprudential practice.

I suspect that is part of it. Along those lines, New York City just released the 911 calls from people trapped in the towers in the last few months. Part of the delay was working with the families. My feeling is also that the FAA is also very slow in releasing such information, even when there isn't a criminal investigation. I suspect that a lot of this might have been getting all the agencies that might have a say in this to say yes (DoD, Dept. of Justice, FBI, FAA, etc.)

As others have mentioned there was also the on-going criminal investigation(s) and possibly other (terrorist) investigations. I also suspect there is a natural tendency in the Dept. of Defense not to rush to release things - once you open that barn door, the horses won't come back.

If you're referring to cockpit voice recorder recordings, the NTSB is specifically prohibited by 49 USC § 1114(c) from ever releasing them to the public. They can release transcripts of relevant portions under certain circumstances but they are not required to do so.

Another law, 49 USC § 1154, governs the use of material not disclosed under §1114 in judicial proceedings like trials. It also prohibits the public disclosure of such material.

And I didn't even have to look that up this time. Debunking does stragne things to the brain. It's like when I had to tend a mix automation system that was so cranky that I had the manufacturer's phone number by heart.

You're ignoring the fact that many 9/11 truthies have already for a long time been regarding the Pentagon stuff as an obvious way to discredit the movement: once the no-planers would have the upper hand, many said, the video would be released in order to discredit.
That's why many have stayed away from the Pentagon stuff. And these people would not be inclined to claim that this video is a fake.

Personally, I don't see much on it. And have no reason - as yet - to claim that it's all fake.

And what about the loved ones on board the flights that hit the WTC and the loved ones of the people killed in the WTC? Those videos have been played endlessly since then. Why should this tape be an exception? How does it hurt us? As for its use as evidence in a trial, does this mean that the tapes and still photos of the planes hitting the WTC cannot be used as evidence in any future trials? I don't think that ubiquity diminishes evidence.
