Yeah, I think I confused "Clear and Present Danger" with "Sum of all Fears". In the book SOAF, the conspiracists were Islamic extremists. In the movie, they were Nazis.

In Clear and Present Danger the oppononts are drugs lords, and there is a Cuban KGB fella involved. The business angle had to do with money laundering IIRC. I don't remember any nazi's in either book or movie. SOAF is islamist extremists in combination with German terrorists, but of the RAF (Rote Armee Fraktion) left variety rather than nazis.

I know that and so do you. I get the impression that some people in Hollywood don't know that. While my movie watching has dropped considerably in recent years (I don't pay good money to see junk), I have a hard time recalling many Hollywood movies of the past 20 years or so where a German character was a good person.

There was Run Lola Run.

Lola rennt was produced in Germany, so not really a "Hollywood" film. Also, asking Germans to depict Germans as all evil is a little much.

Would Arnie count? Even though he's Austrian....

Going old school : Peter Lorre (Also Austrian).
Jurgen Prochnow must have done something that was a good character role?? Atreides in Dune? Da Vinci Code- the banker who tells Hanks and that girl the police are coming, and they should use the secret tunnel to escape...

Production Crew : Michael Ballhaus - German Cinematographer on films like "Air Force One".
Roland Emmerich - Director...although the films he made make me wince to suggest they're "good"... :P
H.R. Giger - Artist. Created the iconic "Alien" (again, not really "good" per se, but it's one of my favourite films)
Hans Zimmer - Musician/Composer.

He is a fine actor and has played several good characters. Even in the movie Das Boot his character was an inherently good one although a tragic one. And of course he played an angel in The Seventh Sign.

Yes, I like Mr. Prochnow; he's very versatile. He's also done voice-work in several Video games. I hesitated to mention "Das Boot", even though it is an excellent piece of work from all involved due to, I believe, it being German-made like Run, Lola, Run, and not Hollywood.

If we're going "old school," how about Fritz Lang? Who, incidentally, escaped from Germany for the exact same reason as Peter Lorre. (Marlene Dietrich?) Actually, most of the extras from Casablanca were refugees, which is why, in the scene where they're drowning out "Deutschland Uber Alles" with the "Marsellaise," a lot of the people who are singing are also crying.

Getting this very slightly back on topic. The OP reminded me of something I saw in a Conspiracy Magazine ("New Dawn") about the time the X-Files came out in Australia.

It was the editors giving a firm put-down to someone who had sent them a letter describing the series as "dramatized accounts of real but suppressed events".

In the next issue they were peddling the same idea for all it was worth.
