Default Anyone ever done this?

I don't know if this has been metnioned around here yet or not, but I just heard something very interesting in class tonight.

One of the guys in my class mentioned a physics teacher he knew of through a friend who took the video of the hammer and feather drop on the moon, and I guess measured the velocity, and used that to calculate the gravity of the Moon. Because his calculation matched the actual, he used this as evidence that the hammer and feather actually were dropped on the Moon!

Anyone else have the figs. on this?

Heh! That obviously means nothing to the twinkies. To them, the film has simply been slowed down by the appropriate amount.

Of course, there's also the pendulum film on Apollo 14, which, if filmed on Earth, would have to be slowed down by a different amount...

But how was the vacuum staged so they both landed at the same time?

Easy. Make the "feather" from some heavy material. When dropped, it'll fall at the same rate as the hammer. Co(s)mic Dave's site has a video clip of such a demonstration.

Can you furnish a link, perhaps? I can't seem to find heavy feather argument.

Cosmic Dave

It's about halfway down the (rather long) page, showing a guy in a lab coat holding a hammer and a feather. Note in the video that the feather appears to bounce.

That sounds like what Dana was talking about in Joe the Bartender's 22 page thread.

Eric has recently added a chapter about that pendulum thing to the ALSJ.
Find anything at http://www.hq.nasa.gov/alsj/a14/a14pendulum.html
