But of course, on LC, they'll claim it's either part of the chemtrail procedure or a "photoshopped" image.

I guess that's their appeal (an answer to Stewie's question in that video I provided).

Now Redtail, it seems to me that bringing up that Chemtrail forum is in the same ballpark as pointing out and laughing at the kids on the short bus. It amazed me that those folks even own computers. And can work 'em!

I've just never noticed four trails from four engined planes,
No offence at all, but is your (corrected) eyesight OK? I couldn't see the difference between 2 and 4 engine contrails in the past, but with glasses I can see it. Not all the time, because as you can see on that photo it can happen the vortex makes them group. But there certainly are many occasions on which you can see 4 separate contrails over long distances behind the plane. In the end they will group, but you can perfectly see it is a 4 engined plane. On the other hand, there are also cases where the vortex splits up a contrail, making it appear 4 engined while it is 2 .

And finally, when I didn't wear glasses in the past i sometimes had a slight double vision, again falsely triggereing 4 engined contrails in my eyes .

But bottom line is: there certainly are occasions where a 4 engined contrail is clearly visible from the ground.

How common is that?

Every time I've seen a contrail, it looks whole. Then again, most the planes I've seen around my town are two-engined jets.

The only time I've seen a 4 engined contrail was on TV, showing a B-52 that was dropping an H-bomb for detonation (part of the film "Trinity and Beyond").
That would be a good one to give to the LC crowd; why release chemtrails when you're about to explode a big nuke?

I can imagine the response.

The only reason I pointed this out is because I am an actor/writer (Waaaaaay more acting) I have an MFA in theatre and words are my life. Now, when someone brought this up at JREF all I could say was "Wha...How... How do..."

One wonders who runs that place.

I am an occasional contributor to the movie reviews there. There was one movie called Chocolat for which the "Goofs" list had an entry under "Anachronisms" that stated one could see an automobile in the background as the camera at the end of the movie dollied out (via aircraft).

Only problem is, the movie was set in 1959/1960 France, and despite the hardships still remaining from WWII, there were plenty of cars, even ugly Citroens, roaming the countryside. I pointed this out to the IMDb jury, and the error still hasn't been corrected.

I take it back, I just checked, and, after about half a year, they finally deleted that "goof"!

Oh well, they must be understaffed, like most US companies these days, and, at least, they're a pretty good source for quotes, although many of those aren't verbatim.

BTW, if you check out the Space Race entry, my correction is featured (currently) as the leading "Goofs" entry for the production.

B52: That's an eight-engined contrail. I don't have statistical data on the contrails, but i know that often i can clearly see a contrail is coming from a 4 engined aircraft because I see 4 separate parts in the first part behind the aircraft. After some distance they melt together. In many cases very soon, but more often than "rarely" only after quite some distance.

good possibliity of seeing 4 contrails from the ground for the top right aircraft

idem dito

D'oh!

Gotta pay more attention to that movie for that detail.

I suppose the jets that I see flying are too high for me to distinguish the seperate contrails from each engine.

BTW, do only certain engines produce contrails? I don't recall seeing them from fighter jets, like the F/A-18 or the F-14.
Then again, they might not have been flying high enough.

You need to fly at the right altitude, weather conditions need to be "good", and your engine exhaust gasses need to have a good amount of (water) particles in the right size.

I sometimes see 4 engined contrails from planes flying very high, but of course it's hard to tell *how* high they're flying. Because sometimes you simply can't see a high flying aircraft, and on other times you still can see it's shape quite clearly. Obviously the latter case makes it a lot easier to recognize the contrail from a 4 engined aircraft. Though it also depends on the lighting conditions whether you see a plane, just its reflection or quite nothing at all.

Ah, I see. Thanks!

BTW, given your interest in aviation Nicolas, I figure this might give you a laugh or two. Hope so!

Snopes says it's false, but very funny nonetheless

Well, it was intended as humorous, not serious, after all, so no surprise Snopes would say it's false.

Imagine if anyone at 'LC' read it.
