Default Apollo Moon (Anti-)Hoax Presentation

I'm doing the 4th generation of my "Apollo Moon Hoax: Why We Did NOT Not Go to the Moon" presentation on July 19 & 20 at 8:00 (this Thursday and Friday). If you're in the Boulder, Colorado area, feel free to come see it on the CU Boulder campus at Fiske planetarium ( http://fiske.colorado.edu/calendar/moreinfo.php?id=150 ).

And then let me know what you think!

Sadly, I will not be in the area, or indeed the hemisphere, any chance you can post some content after the lecture itself?

BTW: I do not concurr with your initial proposition, I believe we did go to the moon in the late 1960's.

I think you misread the sentence. It's "Apollo Moon Hoax: Why We Did NOT Not Go to the Moon." See the double negative? It's a pro-Apollo talk.

Hey, Stu - any chance of the BA showing up?

I'd love to see the BA forget this topic all together and keep doing real science instead of trying to convince easily led 'Joe Rogan clones' that Apollo was real.

Ok, what would you consider to be 'real science'?

One of the original reasons for 'Bad astronomy' was the Moon Hoax

Sigh. I thought after the confusion from this thread ( "Hi-Res" Video of Apollo 16 Rover "Grand Prix?" ) that I had made it even more clear that there's a double negative there, and that it's pro-Apollo ... it's even in the subject line that it's a presentation anti to the hoax idea.

As for the BA showing up, I haven't any idea. I thought he was in a different state.

Not to start an argument since it's not the topic of the post, but I have to say that it's incredibly rude to tell someone else what to do with their career/hobby, especially if it's important enough to them that they've dedicated countless hours to it.

He recently moved to Colorado. Do you read his blog at all?

My apologies for coming off as rude , NOT my intention, ALSO I said , I'd LIKE to see BA forget the Hoax topic , never did I tell anybody what to do with thier career/hobby , I wouldn't dream of doing that AND I do appreciate the efforts and hours spent on debunking the hoax.

The key word is LIKE.

In my opinion the BA (and others) have debunked the bogus moon hoax and I'd like to see him talk more about other topics (Like working with Hubble) and while I'm at it , I'll apologize to Joe Rogan and the rest of those HB's out there for offending them with my Apollo believing ways.

Captain Swoop , What I meant by 'real science' is astronomy. I am aware that the Moon Hoax is one of the BA's 'greatest hits' , but IMO that horse has been beaten enough. My opinion is not what matters on this site , I'm just a space fan that is tired of the Hoax thing , I'm also sick of killer asteroid shows on the discovery channel too. Again Sorry.

Pseudo-scientific belief is cyclical. It never stays debunked, whether it's the Apollo hoax theory, aliens at Area 51, or Planet X.

The problem with the internet is that the sites that promote things like apollo hoaxes and faces on mars don't go away. They're still there, spreading their bad memes to ignorant victims who don't know better (or gullible fools who should). Sensationalist TV shows don't help either of course.

Wish I could go, but Nowra is such a long way from the US. The best I can hope for is to see Peter B's next presentation (you do post as Peter B here, don't you?).

To derail the thread - hey Jay - how about coming out to Oz? Do a Skeptics talk in Canberra; I could manage the drive to see that (do the talk on a Friday or Saturday, please). See Peter B for more details.

Otherwise, how about Sydney? Both Peter B and myself belong to a science group who might arrange some support through a national TV network. In that circumstances, I would suggest a recreation of your "Apollo Hoax" debunking special.

Just some thoughts!

"Apollo Moon Hoax: Why We Did NOT Not Go to the Moon"

The double negative is a cause for confusion and miscommunication. While I approve of what you're doing, it might be better if you chose a different name for your presentation. Just a thought.

I think we had this discussion before.
I like the double negative as an attention getter, and I suspect in Powerpoint (for example) it looks fine.

Apollo Moon Hoax: Why We Did NOT Not Go to the Moon
for example

Just my 2 cents, and Stu, do whatever you like. And I'd love to go, but I'm not going to swing the airfare.

It worked (as stu probably knows).

BA Blog: Moon Hoax talk in Boulder.. but not by me!

Yes, we've had discussions on the title before. I think the double negative adds to it and I'm keeping it.

Yes, Phil contacted me last night to say he'll be coming to the Thursday show. I'm a tad nervous since I'm bound to make a mistake that he'll know about, but I plan on getting my Bad Astronomy book autographed, so it'll be worth it.

The swimsuit is fine, let's just hope he doesn't "moon" the audience.
