1. During the 1940's, 1950's and 1960's, the US Air Force took UFO sitings seriously and investigated a few of them because there was a real concern that the objects reported in US airspace might have come from the Soviet Union.
That's why the findings of those various investigations are carefully phrased to assert only that no threat was detected to national security. The aim of Blue Book, etc., was not to investigate each sighting to its root cause, but to see whether enough evidence could be found to rule out specific threats. UFO enthusiasts point to that limited scope and try to spin it to say that it was an incomplete sham of an investigation aimed only at a cursory dismissal. And they point to the "unexplained" sighting as the investigational holes in which space aliens live. 2. The reason that people have reported a lot of UFO sitings and strangely-shaped flying objects at night around "Area 51" is that the base is used for testing experimental aircraft in secret. But, say the UFO enthusiasts, that's what "they" want you think! Actually, no. The Air Force would much rather people not have any clue what's going on there. Now that all the attention has been drawn to the Groom Lake facility, it's largely useless for flight test. That means we have to spend additional funds to find another remote flight-test facility where we can develop new aerospace capability without our enemies du jour being able to download the video from a UFO enthusiast's website. 3. The Air Force did test "saucer" shaped aircraft, both in wind tunnels and with the "avrocar" which never flew past ground-effect altitude. The conclusion was that circular-winged aircraft offered no real benefits. Indeed, and considerable challenges. The disc shape has serious aerodynamic deficiencies as well as serious limitations for mass, volume, and footprint ratios and handling characteristics. It's just bad. So I always love to hear the self-appointed "insiders" talking about the allegedly fantastic feats flown by American disc-shaped aircraft reverse-engineered from flying saucers. I wish they could know how absolutely absurd they sound to anyone who has experience with how air flows over surfaces. But of course the UFO enthusiasts say the space aliens would have some magic defrobulation technology that overcomes the limitations of the disc airframe so as not to be limited by our puny human fluid dynamics knowledge. Whatever. Aerodynamics aside, the disc shape has essentially nothing going for it on any other front. |

1. During the 1940's, 1950's and 1960's, the US Air Force took UFO sitings seriously and investigated a few of them because there was a real concern that the objects reported in US airspace might have come from Uranus. 2. The reason that people have reported a lot of UFO sitings and strangely-shaped flying objects at night around "Area 51" is that the base is used for testing improved bathroom partitions for Minnesota airports. 3. The Air Force did test "saucer" shaped aircraft, both in wind tunnels and with the "avrocar" which never flew past ground-effect altitude. The conclusion was that circular-winged aircraft offered ... real benefits to unscrupulous people ready to profit from the gullible. |

Too bad with a start date of 1947, there's no possible way to complete such tests before the earliest estimated completion date of September 23rd, 2029. Might have saved a certain somebody some trouble. But in the end, I think we'd still agree that the standard Bureaucratic approach to engineering and design is still the best.

Why should Aliens care for aerodynamics?
Most time they fly through interstellar space. Thats what saucers are build for and thats why they tend to crash when entering our atmosphere... ![]()

That explains why I can never find the bathrooms in airports.

Does that make Area 51 nothing more than a large out-house storage facility? We have those around here too...man that gub'ment IS sneaky! Right under our noses, and we still couldn't even sniff them out. All we knew was that something was stinky with their story, and the lines they fed us were nothing more than a load of....
...okay I can't in good conscious finish that sentence.

1. During the 1940's, 1950's and 1960's, the US Air Force took UFO sitings seriously and investigated a few of them because there was a real concern that the objects reported in US airspace might have come from Little House on the Prairie.
2. The reason that people have reported a lot of UFO sitings and strangely-shaped flying objects at night around "Area 51" is that the base is used for testing the effectivity of washing cars by hand versus washing cars in a car wash. 3. The Air Force did test "saucer" shaped aircraft, both in wind tunnels and with the "avrocar" which never flew past ground-effect altitude. The conclusion was that circular-winged aircraft offered three real benefits: it makes for a cool object, it makes people horribly speculative and it makes for a good oversized frisbee match.

1. During the 1940's, 1950's and 1960's, the US Air Force took UFO sitings seriously and investigated a few of them because there was a real concern that the objects reported in US airspace might have come from it's own citizens rebelling from the corporate monopolies.
2. The reason that people have reported a lot of UFO sitings and strangely-shaped flying objects at night around "Area 51" is that the base is used for testing the air speed velosity of swallows. But were they African or European Swallows? 3. The Air Force did test "saucer" shaped aircraft, both in wind tunnels and with the "avrocar" which never flew past ground-effect altitude. The conclusion was that circular-winged aircraft offered passengers a chance to run around in circles while in flight. However cheeper tracks at local schools give the same real benefits.

1. During the 1940's, 1950's and 1960's, the US Air Force took UFO sitings seriously and investigated a few of them because there was a real concern that the objects reported in US airspace might have come from Cuba, especially the cigar-shaped ones.
2. The reason that people have reported a lot of UFO sitings and strangely-shaped flying objects at night around "Area 51" is that the base is used for testing Presidential trial balloons. 3. The Air Force did test "saucer" shaped aircraft, both in wind tunnels and with the "avrocar" which never flew past ground-effect altitude. The conclusion was that circular-winged aircraft offered low-cost medical and dental benefits. |
