Jay do you have legal training then, from what you said about US law it seemed you did.

Here in the UK it is possible to conduct a private criminal prosecution where the state does not, but sometimes there is the chance that the state takes it over in order to drop it.

I believe the successful prosecution of Gay News by the late Mary Whitehouse was a private criminal prosecution. Are there any other UK posters here who could verify if that is the case. I believe they used the blasphemy laws because Gay News published some kind of poem which ventured into the religious world. Beyond this I am not sure I can say any more under forum rules.

I just assumed you had Private Criminal Prosecutions in the US as well.

No, we do not have private criminal prosecutions, only private tort cases. Criminal is always tried on some level of the government, be it City, State, or Federal.

edit: oh sorry, in my haste I thought you asked "do you", and not "i assumed you did" so sorry for restating the already obvious.

Some training, but mostly legal experience.

No. Only the state can bring criminal charges. That may result from a citizen's complaint and upon belief and information from private sources; but if the state does not elect to bring criminal charges, the citizen has no further recourse in criminal court.

Oh, so it's called Afth and it's in TN. When I was drawing a comic, I couldn't find a name or where it was based, so I had the bad guys be the Sinkae Co., and they were based in Chicago.

He did; but his knowledge of legal matters was about on par with his knowledge of science.
So, he could have been a lawyer, then?
