Default Good luck, Mr Gorsky

Here some recent additions to the ALSJ with regards to the Mr Gorsky case :-)
Quote:
Ulli Lotzmann recently discovered - on his drawing board - a depiction of Neil Armstrong's immortal greeting, "Good Luck, Mr. Gorsky", at the end of the Apollo 11 EVA. According the widely-known urban myth, Neil was thinking of a former neighbor in Wapakoneta, Ohio. This story is simply not true. Neil was actually thinking of his favorite Canadian rock band, Mr. Gorsky. The accompanying photo, taken at Glen Isle on 6 July 2003, shows (left to right) band members Michael Craig, Rod McNeil, and Ken Glover.

Maybe this has been addressed before, but there is NO Amstrong/Gorsky connection. From the Urban Legends web site
(http://www.snopes.com/quotes/mrgorsky.htm )

Quote:
Any doubts about the veracity of this legend are laid to rest by the NASA transcripts of the Apollo 11 mission, which record no such statement having been made by Armstrong. Armstrong himself said in late 1995 that he first heard the anecdote delivered as a joke by comedian Buddy Hackett in California.

Of course, it's an urban legend. It's even clarified in the ALSJ
Quote:
[During November 1995, a clever (and slightly risqué) story was widely circulated on the Internet concerning a statement Neil is supposed to have made during the Apollo 11 EVA. At the suggestion of several readers, let me state that Neil never said "Good luck, Mr. Gorsky" at any time during the mission. Indeed, on November 28, 1995, Neil wrote, " I understand that the joke is a year old. I first heard it in California delivered by (comedian) Buddy Hackett".]
