Default shadow of the moon

The new documentary In the shadow of the moon is being shown here in the UK on Channel 4 in April.

Will the new film silence the conspiracy theorists? asks
one journalist, I think we all know the answer to that one!

How say you?

The only think that I think will silence the CT's will be a...what's the term? LEO? (Mass extinction). Even if we land on the moon tomorrow, and establish a colony, that won't prevent people from saying we didn't land there with Apollo.

I mean, we already have hard facts and proof, testible proof, that we were there. If that doesn't "silence" them now, I don't feel anything in the future will. Really, what more can you offer than fact and proof?

If your belief is not based on evidence, then no new evidence will make you change your belief, so the answer is no.

I'm not disagreeing with anything gwiz or Fazor say. The hard core CTers wouldn't change their beliefs. The only people who may be affected are the borderline fence-sitters; they've seen or heard a little of the CT stuff and it got them wondering a little about shadows or stars or the rocket blast from the LM and now they are not sure.

I thought this myself.

PS: has anyone seen this film/doc?

I'm not dissagreeing with your non-disagreeal of my and qwiz's oringonal statments which were also in agreement with each oth--wait, where am I?

No, but seriously you are correct about the fence-sitting population, and IMHO thats the important percentage to set straight anyway.

I expect that the HBs will make less noise in a couple of decades when several nations have long term manned establishments on the Moon. There will still be some hard-core types saying the whole thing is fake, and by then our ability to create such a fake will be considerably more possible, but the present reality of it all (especially in the form of video conferences with school children's science classes) will suppress most willingness to disbelieve.

Until then, keep educating the masses with the evidence, and keep people aware of the lack of reality in the HB arguments.

This is a wonderful movie, and it will be out on DVD on February 12th.

Over on the IMDB forum for this movie a [adjective deleted] HB carried on about how suspicious it is that Mike Collins never does interviews. This on a board for a movie in which Collins speaks candidly and at length. She also decline to comment about Collins' book Carrying the Fire, or his stint as the director of the National Air & Space Museum, or my conversation with him about Apollo 11...

I guess some people won't change what they think no matter what. Which is really sad. I think that there may be some microscopic hope for all of them.
After all, even Vader turned good in the end.

But Voldemort didn't.

Oh yes! That's great news! Ever since I heard about it I have been desperately searching for it, but to no avail. I see we are to have it shown here in the UK in April too! Wonderful! I will be recording it.... although I will probably buy the DVD at some point anyway...!

Simple answer ..... NO! It won't, unfortunately. We just have to keep on plugging away for the sake of the "not sure" brigade, and hope that one or two of the "it's all a hoax!" lot actually start questioning and testing the science mentioned, rather than "I believe it because I read it on the internet!"

It's an excellent movie, and the astronauts, in their way, can be very witty, there are very funny moments in it.
The HBs are not going to accept that we went, they will continue clinging to their ignorance and remain contrary...now, those who can accept some data and do a little research, that's another story.

Its a fantastic film. Its funny people complaining that Michael Collins never does interviews (Perhaps people dont book him as much. Few CSM pilots who didnt later walk on the moon get much air time) when you can barely go 5 minutes without him being on screen in this film. Hes very engaging and is for me star of the show.

My 'favorite' astronaut has always been John Young. Hes in the movie too but is pretty elusive being in only a few snippets but its good to hear about the endeavour from so many of the men who actually did it.

The credits where the hoax is mentioned are good. Gene Cernan says the truth needs no defence and no one can take away from him the fact he left footsteps on the moon. Michael Collins mentiones that if you get two Americans with a secret pretty soon neither can keep it. Can you imagine doing that with thousands. Its also mentioned by another interviewee that 'if we faked it, we faked it nine times. Why do it nine times?' with the emphasis on nine.
