It's finally official. 2012 is The End.

Here's how I know.

Electronic circuit component makers mark their parts with a date-of-manufacture code, generally the month and year. For the smallest surface-mount devices there isn't enough room for four digits, so a letter is used to represent the year, and a digit or letter for the month (months 10, 11, and 12 are O, N, and D respectively).

The year codes run from 1998, which is J, through 2009, which is W (skipping O and Q). Now, if you follow that pattern to its conclusion, you get X, Y and Z for 2010, 2011, and 2012 respectively.

And that's it. Obviously, 2012 is the last year in which electronic components will be manufactured. Diodes, Inc. must have the "inside scoop" on the End of the World. The convergence of evidence is complete and unassailable.

I'll also point out that, on the data sheet I'm looking at, they cleverly stopped listing the year code at W for 2009. That's clearly intended to prevent a casual observer from noticing that the sequence ends with Z in 2012!

To put "large amount of mass" in perspective, the Kobe claim is 30% to 70% of the mass of the Earth. For comparison, a brown dwarf (as per the doomsday "Planet X" claim) would be thousands of times the mass of Earth (and somehow invisible, and somehow in solar orbit yet somehow moving very fast into the inner solar system). I was a background actress in "Deep Impact" in the Times Square scene, so I have a special bias toward that movie.

Interestingly, the scene in Times Square featured Morgan Freeman as president speaking on the jumbotron about 1600 foot waves hitting the east coast. To avoid a "War of the Worlds" type panic, the film directors had to put a disclaimer above the jumbotron with a running statement saying this was a film and not a real life situation.
