Surely?

With Clementine's puny 46 mm (about 2-inch) aperture telescope (Wikipedia) -- compared to Hubble's relatively gigantic, circa 2400 mm (about 95 inches) aperture and similar for top-notch spy satellites -- a claim that performance should be anywhere near comparable is laughable.

Are you denying that we possess spy satellites which can read the little "American Spirit" on your cigarette? (that would be disingenuous)

Yes, I'm denying it and I'm in a position to know. There is a lot of mythology about the capabilities of spy satellites. I've seen the imagery and it's no where near that good. It's good but not THAT good. Not even close. And that's all I'm going to say about that.

Well, now you've violated your NDA. They're coming...

Yes - aside from the technical issues, I don't have any cigarettes and wasn't familiar with this "American Spirit" (I had to google it).

I was familiar with them ("if you smoke these cigarettes, it's okay, because you're not supporting The Man"), but I've always found smoking to be a bizarre concept. Also my dad died of smoking-related illness when I was six. So, no, no one's going to be reading the brand of my cigarettes, um, ever.

If you look, I was very careful with my choice of words. Admittedly, I hesitated to say anything at all especially since I'm using my real name.

Why would anyone chose Larry as a fake name? Have you any idea of the amount of crap I've caught over the years because of that name? You think it's easy having the same name as one of the 3 Stooges? Watch a TV show and notice the characters named Larry. What kind of characters are they? They're the losers, the deviants, or the homicidal insane.

True, it could be worse. My parents could've named me Shemp, Moe or Curly.

Have you tried calling yourself Sir Lawrence?

The name has all good connotations for me. One of my high school friends was named Larry. Very smart kid. Hardly ever poked anybody in the eye.

Actually, his friends (that's Olivier, who really was Sir Laurence, before he was Baron Olivier) called him Larry. He refused to be called "Sir" or "Lord." So you're in good company, Larry! (Because I'm totally sure that's what you were referring to, Joe--please don't tell me I'm wrong and too much of an acting geek.)

Yeah, that's the fellow. Jay, I think, actually made the joke in another thread about Sir Laurence Olivier being called Larry.

You're not an acting geek at all. By now you've surely been appointed to a permanent position.

To everyone, apparently. (I learned some other interesting things about him on Wikipedia when I went to look up his exact title, but it's another conversation that we don't need to get into here.) Again, he got annoyed if you tried to call him anything else.

I once played a joke on some friends of mine by going off on a "Larry" rant. My voice got higher and higher as I went on about all of the indignities inflicted on the name. Their eyes got very wide. Then I broke out laughing and they did, too. It seemed funny at the time.

Could be worse than that - you could have a brother named Daryl and another brother named Daryl.

But then, look at all the other great Larrys out there: US President Larry S Truman. Director/Actor Larold Ramis. Actors Larry Anderson, Larrison Ford, and Mata Lari. Astronauts Larrison 'Jack' Schmitt, Larry 'Buzz' Aldrin AND 'Larry' Slayton. England's Prince Larry. Larry Potter, protagonist in one of the best selling series ever, written by author JK Larry. MLBer Larry Leihmann. Actor Larry Seinfeld. Notorious Monty Python actor/writer Larry Cleese. Legendary missing pilot Larry Earhart. Basketball bad-boys Larry Rodman and Kareem Abdul Larry. Legendary King Larry Uther Pendraeg. Norse explorer Erik the Larry. The list is interminable (but it'll end here anyway, please don't wound me too badly. )

Seriously, there's nothing at all wrong with Larry. Hollywood's dumped on it [dry] a bit [/dry], but you're in very good company. My personal hell is to share my first name with a movie seal.

Please. You don't have to drag every Tom, Dick, and Larry into this.

Yes, it would be much less confusing if you'd just stick to Bruce.
