Phil gives some reasons here. One big reason is that Hoagland won't stay shut up. He'd be back on C2C the next week complaining about Phil's tactics (like using actual science and facts ) or even claiming victory.

Hazzard,

How many more times are you going to start a topic asking this question?

Indeed. I'm going to invoke Rule 14 regarding disruptive behavior not covered in other rules and warn Hazzard that any further repetitions will be regarded as trolling rather than honest conversation and will be treated accordingly.

I remember years ago, when Hoagland used to have a free blog on his website. The problem was so many of his critics kept scoring solid hits by explaining the weakness of his "version" of science, that he was forced to go with a pay/membership blog so that only the true believers would be willing to stay.

Kinda does a good job to silence those pesky skeptics! Perhaps Hoagland should be in politics...

David Percy learned that lesson too. He had a forum attached to Aulis.com. It went away when I and John Witts started asking the hard questions. Specifically, it was "down for maintenance." For six months.

He came back later with a guestbook whose entries had to be approved before they would appear. As you can imagine, only favorable entries were approved. There was a cottage industry going on at ApolloHoax to see which of the regulars could get anything controversial admitted under their real names (which Percy would have recognized from the old days of the forum). That devolved into who could invent the most amusing sock puppet.

Then they started getting lax in their editorship and allowed a few uncomfortable questions, whereupon the guestbook also mysteriously disappeared. Since then Percy has allowed no feedback to appear on his site.

As we learned in The Lost Boys, "Never invite a vampire into your house. It renders you powerless." While there is much to justify responding to Richard Hoagland's hogwash, doing it head-to-head on "Coast to Coast" is not the right way. It's his terrritory and his rules.
