Zerocold, grammatical pedantry is not the sole province of elderly spinsters.

Clear and correct communication helps you get your message across; not only by making it easier to understand your message but also to show that you have put more thought into your post than stream-of-consciousness meandering.

Poorly formatted, written, and ungrammatical posts can also be taken as contempt for the reader, as it can be taken as saying that the writer's time is more important that all of the readers' time.

Unless your target audience is illiterate teens, for whom correct grammar is anathema and slang acronyms are de rigueur.

Gillianren, please don't let the rabble get you down.

*grins* You're a wombat?

Zero, many years ago I saw a survey done (by Popular Sicence perhaps?) that stuck with me - they looked at a whole lot of fields of knowledge & professions. What they found was those either at the top or acknowledged as being the forerunners or opinion leaders had one thing in common. They all were fluent in reading, writing & speaking their mative language.

Being able to use the tongue with which you were raised effectively, no matter what your upbringing, seems to either give a better chance at success in life or allows others to provide you the chances to progress.

A case in point would be this thread. How much actual discussion have you received over whether there are even any aliens, let alone which ones are preferable?

Your construction, word choice, spelling & grammar meant your idea didn't get acceptance & hasn't been treated with the respect it might, (presented properly) have earned on merit alone.

it's tough but on the internet we get to see neither your bright eyes, your winning smile, nor your eager endeavour. It's just words on a screen & like any writer, your job is to get your idea across without making your readers work too hard to acquire it.

Greys or Lizards - neither - the Kzinti ate them.

Correct grammar is important. Consider the (now classic) repercussions of an poorly expressed command. What if Captain Kirk failed to use proper punctuation in his famous and oft repeated line, "beam me up, Scotty"?

Only on BAUT (I think...) can you find two pages of discussion on grammar rather than the subject of the post, and (mostly only) on BAUT do 99% if the posts make sense and run longer than three sentences simultaneously! That's why I love this place, and lurk frequently...now to answer the OP (I think):

One word: Stargate

If you don't know what it is...use google.

And if you don't understand my comments about the board, try, well, most any other internet board out there...some are better than others, most will just drive you nuts.

pretty much the OP was incomprehensible and that causes us to talk about other things.

I think of it as a free chance for people to discuss off topic things and not worry about starting their own post.

What hair?

I'm quite bald, especially now that Spring shaving removed the beard.

My avatar pic is with my mad scientist "hair"...

these shows werent produced by National Geographic ?

u know...V was more coherent with the original CTs...with shapeshifting lizards taking the world control, Stargate was more about the "Chariot of Gods" plot...but a bit twisted, with good nordic gods..and evil egiptian gods, i preffer V...lizards are more funny than these new age peace lovers weed-smoking naked greys, if SG would have replaced lizards instead these worms as the egiptian gods...that would have been perfect

BS Gallactica is/was also based on ChoG -- i think the original plot was better ....with lizards :P

Lizards at least have personality ...they always were evil

That mative language is probably what allowed them to reproduce and continue their species.
