Default A call to arms

I would like help/suggestions for producing a short (sub-30-minute) video for universally debunking ufo's as space aliens claims. Essentially I'd like links to some of the more famous/infamous videos of ufos, blips, bleeps, blops, etc.

I'd also like to look for videos of non-ufo craft - specifically things that regular craft do that can easily be mistaken for ufos. Airplanes on odd approach paths taken from a moving car, for example (I had spoken to JayUtah about this phenomenon before however I can't readily obtain a video of this occurring so if I could get some handy links...)

I plan on editing it myself in-house and I'd like to get it done by fall.

I could also use really specific things like thrust equations, rocket types, satellite info, etc.

it is going to be really convoluted and difficult to make but I think the effort will be worth it.

What I'm going for here is a "before you post about a ufo video *look at this first*" kind of a thing. I'm sure others have tackled this before but I'd like to do it my way.

Oh and if anyone has that "filmstrip from highschool" type of a voice let me know. I'd very much like to put people to sleep with it as well!

I can do a passable "narrating NOVA" voice, and a friend loaned me a microphone, too. I've never tried filmstrips, but I'm sure I could manage.

And how do you address...
But; what about this one
And; what about this one
but here's one you didn't explain
Nor this one.
but this one is blue.

I'm sure there are plenty of people on the fringe that can use education and have thier mind changed. I run across some of those normally, and all it takes is a quick "it could have been", and they usually respond with a "I never thought of it".

It's the ones that are intent on proving you wrong that are at issue. No matter how much proof to the contrary is, there has to be some evidence to show that you are wrong, and they keep searching.

People look first?
If I had a dollar for every "new" evidence that somebody reveals on the internet that I have seen before, I'd be a rich man.

Any little bit helps, and various takes on it are useful for people with different frames of mind.

So; no matter how much I doubt the effect, I still appreciate the value.

To be honest I expect it to sway no one. I'll offer it as more of a primer on critical thinking in terms if videos in general. i plan on tackling, hopefully without sounding dull and over-technical, such things as camera equipment issues such as digital zooming, zoom-lens issues for distance, iris effects, and so on.

I may even use some original video for this one. There are specifics I'm sure I'll never find unless I source it myself. Maybe even use my IceNoises video... which is famously not famous as only 5 people have ever watched it on youtube. hah!

Anyway thanks for the support - I'll be updating as I go along!

If you need some audio post work done on it, let me know. You may be able to tell by my screen name, but that's my profession. I'm always looking for something interesting to do.

This will be an interesting project. What I would like you to address in your film are the UFOs seen by many hundreds, if not thousands of people, hovering above Mexico City during the solar eclipse in 1991.

With over 100 videos sent into Jaime Maussan of 60 minutes fame, this has got to be the most viewed and filmed UFO event. Some of the objects did strange manouevres, like flying in and out of clouds.

I would be interested what the board thinks those objects were?

Maybe you could buy one of Jaime's many videos he offers for sale on the topic and find out what they were.

I'll cover what I can initially. This isn't a "explain *this* video" kind of a thing but more a process of deduction and "paths to error" issue. There will be specific examples given and explained.

However I would like to see as many videos as possible so I can get some good material to work with.

I'm going to take a deep breath now, for those of you who may not have noticed, some of those objects are fairies with a sprinkling of dragons here and there, the rest are obviously alien spacecraft. After all, they were observed by official Mexican officials, got to be something to it huh . . . ? (help, I need new material Dave)

As a quick update I have a basic outline done. That's not to say this will be done soon... I have about 9 projects going here at once right now. but - it is moving along (and I even located my video camera! Look I can make shoddy videos of airplanes and ballons as well!)

Hi LotusExcelle

There are 2 types which stick out for me as things which ought to be presented.

1. There are a great many reports which contain versions of the following, both in eyewitness reports, and photo/video evidence...

A bright object is reported, with red/orange flashes on one side and green/blue flashes on the other. Yawn...misidentified aircraft. I am surprised this is so common, but it is. Bart5050 posted one of those recently.

The reporters seem to me to be genuine in most of these cases in so far as they are not deliberately hoaxing. The footage presented by Bart seemed most likely not to be of this type though given the editting. Dont know what bart thought of it.

2. Hoaxed footage of something carefully reflected in a window. Again this is surprisingly common, and is a deliberate hoax attempt usually, as the videographers cannot but be deliberately attempting to use reflection+paralax to create an effect.

Perhaps a comparison between such UFO claims and a deliberate staged reproduction might be useful? At the very least it might arm people with the knowledge of what to look for.

3. Perhaps a look at the fuzzy blob school of ufology. i.e. If its a fuzzy blob it must be ET! Many of these appear to do zig zag persistent trails, which are nothing more than persistence in the imaging device, which is mooving (pardon me for the bovine reference LOL). These are the night time blobs of course.

4. and finally, the daytime blobs. I will bet good money that the members here could take their camcorders out and shoot normal and known objects and reproduce almost any effect seen. A comparitve examination of that might be fun.

ETA yes I know I went to 4 but I was on a roll

Wow, for once it actually WAS "swamp gas from a weather balloon was trapped in a thermal pocket and reflected the light from Venus."

Well one time my german shepard, named Jojo, really did eat my homework when I was a kid. Art project and I found out Jojo had a taste for paper mache. (Cream of wheat based) Actually he did that more than once.

I knew I shouldn't have done all my high school homework on bacon. Peaches was bound to be tempted by that. Unfortunately I ate it myself before she ever got a chance.

I have assorted clips of stars scintillating, venus out of focus, iridium flares, and the ISS if you would like to have them. I could probably obtain some aircraft/blimp videos as well. PM me if you need anything.

BTW, most of the video clips from the 1991 solar eclipse were of Venus.

An Update: I've been experimenting with my camcorder (MiniDV) for a few days now and have found some pretty superb lens-flare and CCD artifacts. This will likely be the only "original" footage I'll be using unless I get fancy and send up a mylar balloon... which I may do just to combine all of the artifacts into one shot.

I had planned on this going a lot faster and apologize to anyone keeping track for delays but there is a *lot* going on right now (including a possible switch to an HD camcorder).

I -really- appreciate everyone's support. I'll be contacting each of you that has made offers of assistance soon.
