Default New Anti-Pseudo-Astronomy Blog

<start shameless self-promotion>

After having done presentations against the Apollo moon "hoax" stuff, listening to SGU all summer, and getting more and more interested in debunking bad astronomy, I've decided to start a blog. I can't call it "Bad Astronomy" for hopefully obvious reasons, so I've called it "Exposing PseudoAstronomy." I hope to have at least weekly entries, though I've started it out with three today.

The blog is here.

I would appreciate it if interested folks would take a look and leave feedback here or on the blog. Let me know what you think, if you have ideas for topics or improvement, etc.

</end shameless self-promotion>

Nice to hear from you stu, it seems a while.

I have to start off by saying I'm not a big fan of blogs; I don't like the form and style. I took a quick glance at yours and it seems ok, but again, I don't usually read blogs.

I actually don't read blogs, either. Go figure.

The idea was originally to include it on the massive revision of my astronomy website that I'm working on, in a new section called "Foundations of Astronomy" and a sub-section of "Pseudo Astronomy."

But, because I'm going to be addressing religion on some of the claims, I wanted to somewhat separate it more from my purely academic astronomy website. A blog format also allows me to be somewhat more informal.

Are you familiar with the Skeptics' Guide to the Universe podcast? The host, Dr. Steven Novella, has a Neurologica blog where he addresses similar stuff, but more related to medicine. And another of the podcast's people, Rebecca Watson, has a rarely updated blog called "Crap-Based Medicine" where she does the same thing. So that's where I really got the idea.

I'm not sure if the blog style is more appropriate than a website style, but the blog format allows me to actually post content as I come up with it rather than have a huge website made in the background before I can post it up.

It's not exactly difficult to acquire one.

It's one of the perks of being a member of the official Star Wars fan club, so I away for the membership kit back in March, but I never got it!

Kai, you can sign up for free blog accounts in lots of places... Google (Blogger), LiveJournal and Wordpress are three I can think of off the top of my head.

Hmm... might be that requirement was written into the Internet act of 1962, as per the email that we received (below) when we failed to deposit an unsolicited check for an items we were selling on Craig's list and then give the excess value of the check to the shipper that was supposed to pick up the furniture we were selling:

Oh yea, just to be in compliance I just recently started a blog. It's at http://www.ericmarsh.info/Erics_Worl...g/My_Blog.html. My most recent topic was a three part on drag racing motorcycles, but I've also discussed taxes, transhumanism, and why Apple makes the best computers that you can buy. It's got a cool picture of the Sombrero Galaxy in the header too.

Blogs are a social phenomenon that was created and developed by government intelligence agencies.

It is a way of harvesting psychological profiles on a vast number of people, as well as garnering details of day-to-day activities in the event that they need to surveil, arrest, or terminate said subject.
