From the Ecotricity website:

Quote:
We do take this very seriously. Our engineers and Enercon's are carrying out a thorough investigation. We don’t as yet have any evidence that points us to a cause. There is nothing obvious in what we’ve found so far, no tell tale signatures of, for example, lightning strike or collision.

We've examined the turbine, the fallen blade and the surrounding area, looking for clues. We also sent parts of the fallen blade away for more forensic testing.
And yet, last night on a radio interview I heard Nick Pope saying the blade was still missing, presumed "vapourised" or some such nonsense. He then went on to say that the missing blade was not really the issue as if it was found it would still mean something must have hit both blades, knocking one off and severely damaging the other...

They are made from fibreglass with some foam core in them, as I say in an earlier post one caught fire up near Peterlee and the blades were completely consumed, all that left was some ash. As I reemebr back in about 2004 one of the big turbines (there are 9 of them) at the Nissan car plant in Sunderland was destroyed by fire leaving only the hub and mast as well.

Lets see here...

Are they honesetly explecting me to believe that an alien species, that has some how developed a pyshics that allows for FTL movement through the Galaxay or Universe..

Has a comm system that can comminicate home at near instantateous speeds, and somehow avoids causlity violations...

That they come here and somehow run into a Wind Turbine?

Give me a friggen break. . .

In fairness, this is not a requirement for intergalactic flight. Just a requirement to keep in touch with "home".

Also, in fairness, I've never been a fan of the "they'd be advanced, thus couldn't ever crash." We're advanced enough to send a man to the moon, but we still lost craft and crew with our attempts. Accidents happen.

But no, I don't think it's likely an alien craft hit the turbine and caused the damage.

maybe the aliens like to try to fly thru moving wind turbines- sort of a rite of passage into adulthood or something.

Which, of course, is known to the aliens as the ancient rite of Glork'Drokk.

I was more commenting on the inconsitancy of alien speicies that have FTL Drives and Communications (technically impossible by known physics).

That they seem to continaully bang into things on our planet...

It's not like this is the first time UFO Damage has been claimed, and it's wildy inconcistant with thier own suppositions on how technical these so called aliens are supposed to be.

I know, but in much the same way we tell them "Lack of explanation is not proof of existance", intergalactic flight is not proof that the civiliaztion is beyond mishaps.

It is indeed interesting that the "UFO story" often changes characteristics based on what is needed for them to fit into a particular event though.

I have found this most interesting. Looking around the various news comments and other sites, seeing this get out of hand and the way it developed.

Of course, we cannot rule out mutilation. They beamed up a cow for mutilation and Emintrude was rather heavier than expected and slipped the beam and hit the blade. Bet I am not the first to make that up? What will Zebedee have to say?

Why should UFO mean alien spacecraft?

Unidentified Flying Object I don't see a mention of aliens in that definition?

The story so far, so i'm led to believe is that the turbine was hit by experimental robotic air craft, testing has been going on in the surrounding areas for a while now.
I have no details, just what I've read and heard today. perhaps tomorrow there will be yet another explanation...!

UFO doesn't mean alien spacecraft. But the equivalency has been in popular culture for so long (see Gerry Anderson's TV series UFO) that most people would rather assume it than think.

Let's first wait and see if it was actually hit by anything at all! (Other than its own debris, that is). Until we have any evidence that it was hit, it's useless to speculate about what might have hit it.

I would guess that anything like an unmanned drone or small aircraft would have been extensively damaged if it hit and snapped one of those blades. Those blades are huge.

I'm going with the simplest explanation and write it off as fatigue.

I think I've figured out why aliens always seem to crash their ships.
Why does every one that claims to see an alien always say they're green (not really)

Because they come from a dry (as in prohibition) part of the galaxy. They come here and drink our whiskey, get sick from alcohol poisoning and crash. Or push the wrong button and blow themselves up. Damn intoxicated aliens.

Let's be honest. It's a long trip. You get here exhausted, in a fast ship, at night. I'm surprised we only get a few crashes...

I don't think it would have been any kind of 'drone' operated by the RAF or Army, it would have been destroyed and bits of it would be laid around the site. As they are Fibreglass composite items I am going with some kind of fatigue in one of the blades.
