Now, having Google and the WWW as only informations source isn't the best solutions, but it is still a league above the average Hoaxer, who can't even use Google, Wikipedia etc.

At the time I posted, I didn't. Thanks for pointing that out.
Hmmm, I wonder if Petzold reads this message board.
I admit that I use Google a lot. Almost to the exclusion of all other web searches, in fact. For the most part, those debating CTs are more concerned with discerning whether or not the hits are trustworthy sources, and less with whether or not all of the information you have on a subject has been gleaned from Google searches.
That quote comes from this
blog entry, where Petzold compares and contrasts non-internet books with internet articles dealing with the same subjects. The implication is that the reader trusts both equally, and in that case, he argues that books are a more optimal way to learn about the subject. So, I suppose that the quote is taken out of context, in that he was less concerned about the trustworthiness of your sources as opposed to where you get all of your information. At any rate, I think it fits, anyway.
By the way, I originally came across the quote by way of Jeff Atwood's blog,
Coding Horror, but I had to Google it to find it again.
