Clarke's choice of 3 deaths - A-bomb, nerve gas or bayonet!?

Reading Arthur C. Clarke's book Greetings Carbon Based Bipeds, (Voyager / HarperCollins, 1999) I stumbled across the following sentence at the start of an essay titled "Scenario for a Civilised Planet" on page 421 :

---Quote---
"I suspect that given the choice most of us would prefer to be killed by A-bombs rather than bayonets or nerve gas. So lets stop arguing over details and consider this fundamental question ..."
---End Quote---

Okay then, I thought I'd put the rather morbid question Clarke offered to y'all as an experimental survey and see. A bit of black humour &/or philosophy anyone?

How then would you choose to die given the choice of death by :

1) A-bomb

2) Bayonet

&

3) Nerve gas

Do you have any preferential order & if so why?

PS. Of course I'm not entirely sure that any of these grisly fates would exactly be described as fun'n'games but a-n-y-h-o-w ... ;-)

PPS. I've chosen to die by bayonet. Painful I know but I've got my reasons which I'll explain later ...

Betting pool for Nibiru

So we know that 2012 is going to be notable as the year that the world failed to end. Just like 2003. Since Nibiru keeps getting held up in traffic or something, why not make a "betting pool" for when the next Armageddon will be scheduled?

(i.e. what will the crazies say will be the date of the Nibiru encounter after it fails (again) to show up in 2012)

After 2012, we'll see who got the closest.

My arbitrary guess: Jan 20, 2021 (1-20-2021... a pattern in the numbers, must mean something right?)

I have this odd problem, I'm sure you're the one who can help me. There are several people in my office whose names I don't know. They work in other departments and I've never been introduced to them, but I've been chatting with them in the elevator and at the coffee station for years. At least one of them knows my name, so it's much too embarassing to ask theirs. I even walked around by -----'s cubicle, but he doesn't have a name plate like most people do. Then there's Vzikctryczh Cucztchinnizyk, who introduced himself to me. I thought he said "Victor", but I'm scared to call him that in case it's wrong. How can I find out these people's names with the minimum embarassment, or in Vzikctryczh's case, how to pronounce it? --Incognizant in New York

Poll - How will the LHC end the world?

Poll Test - Assuming the Large Hadron Collider will end the world how will it do this? :

1) By creating a black hole - or strange (quark?) matter that will swallow the Earth /transfrorm it into a quark star the size of a pea or smaller.

2) By opening a transdimensional portal opening us up to aliens / Future beings /the hell dimension a.k.a. the 'Doom' scenario! ;-)

3) Y'know how splitting the atom lead to the really Big bomb thingy & an earth shaking Kaboom!? Well splitting the Higgs boson = an even bigger literally Earth shattering KA Boom! / Chain reaction involving Higgs boson & its role re: mass ends up destroying gravity either planet-wide or entire cosmos ...

4) God. He really hates us messing with His particles! ;-)

5) Sorry I'm a killjoy who just doesn't buy that premise - the LHC just will not do the Apocalypse job! / Other - please suggest in the comments.
(Or should I start another poll - can I fuse two polls into one & get ten or more options that way I wonder?)

(Man, I need more options here! Havinga total up to say nine or ten would be better IMHON.)

Okay I hope this works ... Testing, testing. In case you're wondering, yes, this is somewhat tongue in cheek.

No refund will be provided should our planet fail to self-destruct on _("proper") _LHC activation & in event of Apocalypse occuring ..Well do you really you expect me to find away to pay up then? No bets!

Should we try to put peanut butter on it?
