Torsten, thanks for your reply. I do have a tripod, but I think it is from the 1940's. Very metalic, difficult to adjust and awkward flat top for a very heavy camera...so I have been looking for a good tripod and shopped many sites. I have since become enamored with the parallelogram binocular mount and I am considering building one...thoughts or ideas? joe

Hi/ My name is Rusty and I live in the center of Alabama. My interest in astronomy is tempered by my lack of knowledge of it. I am a space exploration fan and have seen two shuttle launches in person.

I am also a mechanical engineer and am working on my Masters in ME.

Yes, more in this thread starting at post 9, and I've added something I found to the end of the thread. Cheers.

And welcome MechE. I'm jealous of your having seen launches in person.

Hi, I'm Ataim from Fort Worth. I live about 30 miles northwest and have OK dark skys. Nothing worth writing home about, but better than in the city. I currently have a Meade LX200 10" with a few extras. My pasions are photography, cooking and hunting. I started taking astrophotographs in the last few months. Still learning but getting better. Here are a few regular photograph I've taken in the past....

Hello fellow astronomers,

My name is Doug, from upstate NY. I have a lot of telescopes and a lot of bad weather, so here I am on the internet. Hopefully I'll find some good stuff on this forum.

Hi dougj7, I'm sure you won't be disappointed! Welcome to BAUT!

Hey ATAIM, I really like that first Thunderbird shot. What goes through those birds' minds? (CUT THAT NOISE!!!) What would the pilot think, had he known about those birds appearing so close to that great big FOD sucker? Nice.

Default Greetings: This is Aelystrae

Call me Aely.

I have a deep and abiding belief that Homo Sapiens Sapiens will develop into a true space-faring race, Homo Sapiens Astra, with the establishment of the first sustained human colony orbiting another star.

Yes, I believe in extraterrestrial intelligence, and yes, I believe they are all around us in our local space, have visited us, have influenced us, and are currently monitoring us. I see us as a typical developing technological civilization, and therefore of interest to exovbiologists and "exosociologists".

I know this forum is mainly for astronomical discussion, and I seek to understand the hard science in order to understand the possibilities and mechanics of exobiology better.

I am a theoretical astronomer, have studied the stars and astrophysics since I was a child. I love to learn, to read, and to think. I am a huge fan of Michio Kaku, and have a deep and sincere respect for the researchers who every day press the limits of our understanding, not only the hard scientists who search and observe every day, but also the theoretical scientists who explore the true unknowns and remind us all of the infinite possibilities our universe contains.

My most recent astronomical/astrophysics epiphany: The "light year horizon" and the fact that the universe extends way beyond the physical observable boundaries of light, and that the observable universe is only a microcosm of what is out there past what light we can observe or even comprehend.

Thank you, and looking forward to learning much, much more.

Welcome awaken One. You certainly seem like someone who will benefit from the information found here. Indeed, many of our disciplines came from people who spoke the names in your post with reverence, so you are actually amongst friends. Have fun learning.

You might want to lay off the mean spirited name calling though. Around here we call that Ad Hominem, and it's considered to be a sign of a weak argument.

Hi. I just stumbled across this board and had to join. It's right up my ally! I'm a writer working on science fiction who needs occasional facts and info.

Anyhow, I may drop in once in awhile to ask a silly question or two.

Welcome BM!

Looked forward to seeing you around. You'll find more facts and info here than you can write a book at.

Live in the southeastern part of the US. Interested not only in astronomy but also those aspects that are not always warmly embraced: namely those things which don't yield themselves to logical and rational explainations.

Default I have zero idea of what I am doing.

I just sit in my shop all day.
Today I wanted to start a new thread on here and it said no.

I have the idea that we can turn a black hole into either a radio or television station as a hypothesis.

But then what do I know, nothing.

Hello to all,
I'm a 40+ backyard inventor/engineer/scientist/astronomer/mad scientist

I defiantly think outside the box.

Found this site trawling for info on Bose-Einstein condensates and there effect on the speed of light and ability to stop light when they are almost at absolute zero K

Read a few threads and like the way people think here, a few reminded me of old theories of the universe I had have read. I tend to absorb all information I read/watch and have a few ideas about a lot of theories and where they might be wrong, or at least can add some insightful info to a thread

Cheers from OZ

Geoff

Default My beautiful child...

You are in a part of your life where it feels it can never ever end!

Follow your dream now. Be careful, for every step you take, and every decision you make...

Will become the outcome of your dream, the hearts desire, your bliss.

Do not **** it up!

Default Valkyrie801

Valkyrie801 is my "Turm Nummer"

My turret number.

Toward the end we stopped painting them on our turrets.

We even gave up on painting the "Rittencruz" upon our vehicles. Ya know. The black cross.

I seem to be dogged by several anal retentive who threaten me with something.

Every word to be intellectually considered, and then judged upon...

much like republicans.

You are 'threatened' when you don't follow the rules of the board, you have been pointed to them several times. play nice and enjoy yourself.
You will also have noticed when you were looking at the rules that political comments aren't allowed either
