Default It was "Babylon 5"

I remember the episode...

"The Parliament Of Dreams"

Lando says something about exceeding his greatness when he wears purple.

I recommend the episode, and in particular the very ending sequence.

Valkyrie801, you've broken far too many rules to be mouthing off at my fellow moderators like that. You have very few chances left to start behaving yourself. I suggest you make the most of them.

I love physics, and astrophysics especially. Though I never seemed to get in the whole observational astronomy thing. Umm... is there anything else I should say? Probably not: it'd bore you to tears.
The beans? We are about understanding who we are and where we coming from.

Default This is my first post on BA and I am glad to be here.

I am a Science/Math teacher and a science fiction fanatic (especially when it comes to time related topics) from the southeastern U.S. I am a Christian an believe in the creation of the Universe, however I do not believe that it is my place to convince anyone else of that, so this is possibly the last time you will hear me make such a statement of my own volition.

I enjoy widening my knowledge in the area of science (if the Discover channels and TWC were to only channels offered by my cable provider it would be OK by me), and challenging myself with mathematics (love the fact that Fg=Gm1m2/d^2 is spoken here). I have read several of the threads and am impressed by the number of posters that seem to be practicing physicists (some posts read more like peer reviews than message board chatter). So thanks to whomever it is that created and maintains this board, hope to be reading more in the very near future

Hi jete, welcome to BAUT. Nice to have a science teacher interested in science.

And yes, I don't wish to dampen the welcome, but please avoid religious discussions on this board, they are strickly against our rules. Thanks,

Hi,

Not much to say, i am more interested in human spaceflight than astronomy and i come from the land down under, Australia. I don't know a huge amount about all the technical stuff to do with spaceflight but i'm learning.

Just found these forums looking for some info on a recent space mission and thought that the wealth of knowledge here is probably beneficial to those interested in space travel.

You might appreciate the fact that omega=Rs*theta*c/(rcubed+thetasquared*r+Rs*thetasquared) is spoken here, too!

Enjoyed reading your CV, so to speak, thankyou for being honest about your beliefs.

Hello to all.

I'm yet another Australian on here. It it just me or do we have a very high per capita representation on this site?

I've been lurking on this forum and keeping my work days entertaining for several years now. I may have been one of my city's best paid lurkers. (That term disturbed me when I found out that's what I would be referred to - made me feel rather seedy)

Thanks to all the members here for all the great reading so far. I'm kind of ashamed to say it, but I usually head straight for the ATM & CT sections - I love seeing the curious ideas out there and all the educational responses from Swift, JayUtah and the posse of wise men.

I opted not to use either a JayUtah quote in my signature, nor a nebula profile pic. Outcast already eh? Heh heh

Not sure how much you're likely to hear out of me. I'm hugely interested in physics, am usually reading 3 or 4 books on the topic at any one time, but for that reason am slow to progress my learning. Only studied physics at high-school, but had a slow job at one stage and read heaps during that time, often by Michio Kaku etc.

Anyway, hello everyone and cheers!

Edit: Oh, and any hilarious threads that I really ought to read that anyone wants to let me know about?

Thank you kind sir! I look forward to expanding on the experience I've had so far. Probably my most visited site, apart from google and *ahem* facebook (oh jeez, did I just admit that?)

No more stealth lurking

Good for you, Jessica. Even if you don't end up doing anything related to the sciences, having a solid science background is always beneficial. And fun.

It's my defense mechanism.

If it's too off putting I will change. I'm a very accommodating person.

Geonuc: touche! Good on you Jessica. No matter what path you decide to take knowledge is always a blessing, particularly of physics. After all, it determines everything about the universe we inhabit. Which leads to another fascination of mine: One day I'd love to see a greater understanding of consciousness built into the body of knowledge that is physics. After all, it should be able to encapsulate everything somehow.

Ah, good to see you found your way here, despite my bad directions. I know you were worried about your upcoming Physics course; they'll be able to help guide you in the Q&A and/or General Science sections.

No intent to belittle the forum there Nokton, I hope it wasn't taken that way. It's just that I've found a number of threads which, while dealing with very real topics, have evolved to include some very curious and intriguing lines of thought. I've noticed some have been referenced along these lines before. Just thought I'd check.

I am very interested in many of the topics, which are more easily searched, but some which tend towards the absurd are less predictable for means of searching.

I appreciate the intent of your comment though.

I hope Nokton was kidding. This part of the forum is full of silly stuff, and you will see I am a frequent participant.

Not to stray too far from the introductions, but any post with a header like this one (and the accompanying yellow professor) are typically also fairly silly.

Cheers Swift, and yes, I've noticed a few of your posts in there on some scouring I've done this evening.

Glayven moyven (sic? {yes I am})

Sorry to stray. That will be all from me here. Thanks.

Outstanding! We need a good scouring every now and then.

And as you can see, the hilarity isn't limited to just one small section...

Here I think, most members strive to be understood even if it takes more time from their end. And, it's good to be highly accurate when quoting someone's words. I can work around your spelling.

Please focus on the question. The issue is: Where did the quote come from? Where did he say it? What was the context?

Cite, please.
