OK. Thank you. Well, it's not real cool to (even partially) make stuff up (or recall incorrectly) and then attribute it to someone. If you had in the first place just said it was your recollection and not a quotation, as it appeared, it would have been better.

I think what he actually said, and your version are quite a bit different, so I didn't recognize it as coming from him. "Determining the origin" and "determining the evolution" are rather different things. I don't want to beat you up over it. I was just curious if he had really expressed that quoted idea. Now I know.

(Others, if the book isn't at your fingertips, it might be found on the web, in context, at what appears to be an individual's copy of the copyrighted matter.)

I probably have used too much bandwith of the Introductions topic. I'm satisfied. If you feel like saying more about it, you might want to start a separate topic.

Thanks for helping.

Welcome.

There are here: Rules For Posting To This Board.

Oddly enough, they are kept in a prominent location in the Forum Rules, FAQs, and Information section. If you ever lose track, they can be had, indirectly, through the FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) link near the top of most pages.

No problem. It's a lot to take in at first.

You won't be held to knowing the contents of every BAUT Forum post there has ever been, until next week. Good luck on your license exam!

(Just kidding. You get a month. (Just kidding.))

Hi all,

28 years old here, always had an interest in astronomy/physics/etc - but of the kind that appeals to the layman like myself. By that, I mean my reading on the subject tends to be along the lines of A Brief History of Time, Before the Beginning, The Elegant Universe, Cosmos, etc. I think this interest coincides nicely with my passion for art, as sometimes their searching for the truth can overlap. (By day though, I'm a 3D artist, mostly working as a modeler and texture artist)

I appreciate it dearly mr. "01101001". Thanks for giving me that copyrighted material. It is the same as to the book I am referring to. Is it possible to post a blog in this forum? How can I do that?...and sir (or mom?) I will be willing to receive constructive comments from you. I do not have a formal training in writing and my English is not that fluent but I do want to express my inner thought. .

Hello Everyone, my name is Will. I am new to the Forum. I hope I don't offend the user by the name of J-man. I did not know that my user name Jman would be almost identical to another existing member. If the Administrators think I should change it please let me know how to do it. Thanks very much. I look forward to learning alot here and hope I can share good stuff as well.
Thanks again.

Hello everyone. I am a serious amateur photographer who loves motorcycle riding and astronomy. I am tinkering with several ways to improve my astrophotos. Webcams and DSLR. Hoping to introduce both of my granddaughters to astronomy when they can reach one of my scopes.

Well... the Computer suggested I come to this sub-forum and say hello, so here I am.

Possibly relevant info: Male, a shade over 50 yrs old, interested in astronomy since I was a kid. I suspect I have somewhat better knowledge of the subject than the average person, but I'm certainly no expert and have never had any formal schooling in it beyond the standard high-school stuff. Basically, I know just enough to know I really don't know much at all.

Politically I'm pretty middle-of-the-road, maybe a slight leaning toward the left, but sometimes I'll find myself agreeing more with the conservative side on certain issues.

Religiously I'm mostly an atheist, with maybe a little tendency towards deism.

I'm expecting my role here on this discussion board will be to occasionally ask dumb questions about astronomy. I won't mind if you poke fun at me about the questions, so long as you also answer them while you do it.

Well, I think that about covers it. So...hello!

Default Greetings

Hello, my name is Doug from Saskatoon, Canada, I am 40 years old. My interests are in astronomy, physics, chemistry, geophysics, evolution and even some history. What's odd is when I was younger, I couldn't have cared less about science, but now I can't get enough of it.

This summer I've had my telescope out at least every second weekend. I have seen many of the planets and moons, still working on our solar system. I may have to get further away from the city lights before I can get to work on the rest of the universe.

Talk to you later.

dpig69, you're in the right province for dark sky sites. Photos from Saskatchewan star parties appear to show the most defined Milky Ways outside of Texas.

Hello Everyone!

I've been lurking around here for a while, soaking in all the information, and I thought it was time to register and introduce myself.

I'm in my thirties now, but I've been a lover of astronomy since I was little. I've finally gotten myself in a comfortable position that allows me to inject some funding into my adoration for all things astronomical. I've been playing around with a Sky-Watcher 8" Dobsonian for the past year, but I'm looking to get more serious with things. My goal in the beginning was to get myself into imaging and astrophotography, but I took the first step with the inexpensive Dob. I'm thinking that an equatorial mounted scope and imaging system will be my Christmas present to myself this year.

So, anyways, this was just a hello to the community, but I'm sure that as the summer progresses, I'll be asking lots of questions about imaging equipment, scopes, and mounts. I'm still debating life's great questions like whether to go with a digital SLR or CCD device for imaging and whether to select a catadioptric or newtonian reflector tube for the scope, and then there's always the question of new versus used equipment. Oh, the questions! Lots of time for that though once I'm more informed on my end.

So hello from Florida, yes I'm in Florida (not the greatest place for viewing, but hey, you gotta live somewhere).

My name's Michael, I go by a few names online. Occasionally I'll post into Mr. Plait's blog under the handle of Billy Bob.

I'm actually a long time lurker, and after having this forum come up with fair occasions researching stuff for conspiracy forums, I just finally decided to register here.
