Hi all,
I'm from Belgium, my year of birth is the product of primenumber 4 and 5. I've got a strong intrest in physics, programming, and math. I graduated as a product designer and did some extra courses to increase my programming skills. I usualy skip the easy parts in a manual and start in the expert section, (sadly) returning to the how to start section after five minutes. (you don't book a hotel without seeing the pictures right?).
I'm not an expert, i'm just an allrounder who likes indepth information. So don't value my opinions to much.

I'm Ilja Schmelzer, and want to discuss here my theory. It is an alternative theory - an ether theory - but close enough to mainstream physics. Different from most other ether theories, it has been published, thus, not complete nonsense

I. Schmelzer, A Condensed Matter Interpretation of SM Fermions and Gauge Fields, Foundations of Physics, vol. 39, nr. 1, p. 73 (2009),
ilja-schmelzer.de/papers/clm.pdf

The gravitational part of my theory seems more relevant to the astronomy forum than the part about the standard model because it predicts differences for the early universe (big bounce instaed of big bang) and the gravitational collapse (stable frozen stars instead of black holes).

Welcome Ilja.

I'm not qualified to discuss you hypothesis, but it looks like it could be interesting to discuss.
We have a sub forum specifically set up for ideas that aren't quite mainstream, I suggest you read our rules for posting, with special emphasis on rule 13 which covers the additional rules for that sub forum.
Note the 30-day limit on treads, don't try to present everything in one go as you probably won't have time to answer all questions, instead do it in small bits.

We also have a sticky with advice about posting in that forum along with warnings about what you can expect.

As you're published, you should be used to the intensity of academic debate and won't be surprised by your reception.

Note that I removed the links to your website as you're welcome to participate here but not if it's only for the purpose of free publicity.

Default Hello!

Just wanted to say "hi" - I'm new here. I don't know a lot about astronomy, but I've always had an interest in space in general, so I probably won't be adding a lot to discussions - especially in the way of technical stuff - but I am hoping to maybe learn more.

I don't understand this recommendation. With your 30 day limit I have to discuss all at once. Don't worry, I will find time to answer all objections.

By the way, is it possible to discuss my theory of gravity first, and then, after 30 days, to start a thread about my theory for the SM? (If to discuss my SM model at all in an astronomy forum.)

I'm used to heated discussions and have no problems discussing even with quite aggressive posters, in particular I don't worry about personal insults - they disqualify only the one who makes them.

But these have been discussions about other questions, not about my theory. The reaction to my theories is usually silence. If it will be different here, I will be happy.

I promise hereby to answer all objections against my theory in detail. But once I have written a lot of explanations of my theories on my webpage (so that it becomes much easier to understand in comparison with the professional article) it would be nice if I would be allowed to refer (at least sometimes) to my pages.

Who wants to read more can find my website anyway.

That was what I meant about breaking it up in pieces.

Especially if you start by defining which pieces you'll discuss in which thread, as it will then enable you to refer relevant questions to the next thread, which will be considered an adequate answer within the rules.

Personal attacks won't be tolerated from either side here, if you feel someone attacks you rather than your idea, report the post immediately.

The way to make such a reference would be to either post an abstract and make a link or just post the whole thing. (providing you wrote it)

There's a strong dislike here of "It's all explained in this link", as previous experience shows those links to be mostly nonspecific links to a third party site or to a ½ hour youtube video that doesn't actually show anything other than the ignorance of its producer

Basically we want people to argue their case in their own words.

Hey there folks. I'm not a scientist or anything but it doesn't stop me from getting in over my head when it comes to what i read! I'm a technician and my job is to keep high speed packaging equipment going. Some of it is old cam driven stuff and most of it is servos and sensors. All good fun! I look forward to having my horizons broadened here. I might even contribute something!

Hi, I'm not really a new member, but have never posted. I'm a software engineer and have always been interested in astronomy (my mom was always purchasing astronomy books for me), and I'm here to learn.

I'm a latin american living outside of the US, so please bear with me if my English is not the greatest.

Default Just Getting Started...

Looking for a way to get the kid's excited about Science. Bought a used and very ancient Meade Saturn DS-60 at a yard sale and was hoping someone could tell me what I should expect to be able to see. I don't want to discourage them by coming out of the chute with a dud! DS-60, 60mm of course, 700mm f/11.7. Any ideas? The moon fills 1/2 the view...not sure if this is the expected limit. Willing to spend some bucks in the future if I can light the fire. Thanks!

Hi Enthusiastic Dad. Welcome to BAUT.

Might I suggest posting your questions in this forum on observing - I bet you'll get a lot of answering. Have fun.

Thanks… I like to write posts since I’m actually practicing when I do so.

Anyway, following Enthusiastic Dad’s post, I’m also in the business of getting my daughter interested in science. She’s still very young, but I think she’s at the best age (3 and a half years old). She already recognizes most of the planets and I purchased a huge “Saturn” poster for her room.

I don't know that anyone's said it yet, but welcome Darth! <- egads, don't know how I missed that from Henrik's post

I remember when I was recently watching the "Cosmos" series thinking that it'd be one of the best ways to get children into science, because Carl Sagan's got such a soft voice (I imagine might help keep them calm, though I don't have kids so that could be a foolish assumption of mine) but also because of how beautifully he phrased things.

I wish I'd grown up with a copy of this in my home. Maybe I'm just projecting

Hello everyone :]
I've been into astronomy since childhood. Now i'm studying physics and looking forward to my astrophysics lectures which i'm gonna have this year. This will be my second year in the university :] I'm planning to study astronomy on my own and i hope that this forum will help me sometimes :]

Hi solar.wind, welcome to BAUT. Are you, by chance, interested in stellar physics (just a wild guess )?

I dunno; I always thought "solar wind" was what I got after eating too many Sun Chips . . . but perhaps that's too much information.

Welcome, solar.wind and all the other recent additions to BAUT!

Default Hello from Canada!

Well, I know I've posted here several times but I felt bad I haven't introduced myself, so here it goes.

Hello from Canada!

Ontario to be exact. I'm still in high school and I've become interested in the subject of astronomy, spacecraft, etc.. So it feels good to be part of the forum.

Aleksey

Default hello, is anyone there??

Hello!!
Oh man, I see no one has posted an introduction for quite some time. Shall I break the ice? Im Mila (pronounced Mee-laah). I few years ago i watched a really neat documentary on the moon, and since then I have been absolutely in love and fascinated by astronomy. I would love to make it my area of study in school, but I am absolutely horrible at physics...in fact, I really hate physics and dont understand it at all! However, Im really enthusiastic about the things I have learned so far, and I cant wait to learn more!

Hello and welcome MilasSky!

How is your grip on mathematics? If you are reasonably proficient with your maths then it's just a matter of finding the right people to explain how it is applied to the physical world and, viola, physics becomes fairly easy.

There are some amazing minds in this forum, so hopefully that helps for you.
All the best!

Hi, I'm a new member to the forum but not to earth. I've been living in South Africa for many years. Gray, half blind, half deaf, semi lame, and still confused as to the workings of the universe. Please Help!

Seems we skipped Aleksey - Hi Aleksey, welcome to BAUT.

Hi Contemptaplator, welcome to BAUT. We might be able to help about the workings of the Universe (maybe not), but as to the rest.... yeah, tell me about it, I'm a gray beard too.

Ah, you guys almost missed me! This thread could have easily gone to the next page... And I would've gone unnoticed. (I was hoping there would be a ninja emoticon, but this sentence in parentheses works just as well )
