My humble apologies!

It may have seemed a bit weird from me, given you've been here 6 months longer than I. Maybe it was revenge because you never welcomed me. It's a grudge I've secretly been carrying.

Swift's pretty hard to sneak anything past . . . that's why the frog in his avatar looks soo sneaky. I, on the other hand, am much slower, so welcome Aleksey and anyone else since my last blanket-welcome.

I'm sure one of my blanket 'Welcome to all since my last welcome's encompassed your joining. Though I may have specifically excluded you.

Sure i am :] i even remember learning to read from a book called 'science and the universe'. [i was one of those children who like science as much as climbing trees and staying up late with friends]. One of my fav topics was about stars formation and life.

Greetings from Slovakia to everyone!

I'm 27 and I have a Master's in languages so I'm not an expert in the science department. I'm mostly here to learn and hopefully participate in some discussions. I've been interested in astronomy since the age of 10. Back then I used to observe more but now I'm more tempted by the science behind things, currently trying to learn something by watching Alex Filippenko's lectures.

Welcome Simona!

Filippenko is great, such unbounded enthusiasm. Though it's somewhat strange when he describes the destruction of planets through various mechanisms with a huge grin on his face.

Hi all, greetings from The Netherlands!

What's to say? I'm 34 years old, have a masters degree in astronomy and a PhD in mathematics but I no longer work at the university. I'm still interested in astronomy, physics (quantum mechanics in particular), maths and space travel, and also in debunking pseudoscience.

Default One more from Mexico

Hi,

While talking about Arps Cesar also known here with his alias Mexhunter invited me to join this forum and so here I am.

Same as Cesar (north of Mexico) I have set up a fixed Observatory next door to my house (center of Mexico) from where I do my Astrophotography. My Sky magnitude is around 4.5

Here are 2 images of what my Observatory looks like

here from the inside

The observatory now is capable of being controlled remotely but so far I have not done it as the most important factor the Internet bandwidth is too slow respectively I have nobody in the observatory who could in case of failure close the roof

I have been setting up and optimizing my equipment for nearly a year and finally since about a few weeks I started to fill up my cameras with photons. The results are not spectacular but getting light from 500 million light years (Arp 71) away is quite fascinating for me.

I will post a few images from what I have done and I am trying to get as much Arps as possible into my collection.

Thanks for reading and regards

Rainer

Hello one and all from another Old Fogey! 40 years sinceI left University and, thinking it was time to finally get to grips with things like the Twin Paradox, I ventured into Special Relativity! Wow! I'm hooked!
I spent several years fixing Computer Software. Making sure that it did what it was designed to do, that the design met the spec and that the documentation described what the software did and how to use it.
It is like being back at work!
It is all about 'How things Work'
I love it!

Hi, I'm Matthew.

I am in my first year of studying physics and astronomy at Canterbury University,
I was going to do engineering, but then realized I didn't like eng as much as I thought I did.
I have always liked looking at the stars, particurally because, where I lived until I was 8 or 9,
the sky was very clear with no light pollution, close to Mount John observatory.
I will probably get to spend some time there over the next few years.

From what I have read on this forum so far, it is a very interesting forum.

I also like music, particularly classical music, and I play the tuba.
one of my favourite pieces of music is 'The Planets' by Holst,
which is once again correct (7 planets excluding earth) since the demotion of Pluto.

Hit MattTheTubaGuy, welcome to BAUT. Hey, I used to play the tuba too, back in High School and College. Everyone, a big, deep, bass shout-out for the tuba!

Hi All

New member here, but I been a lurker for about a year. I originally found this site due to my re-kindled interest in astronomy about the same time. I was at the time actually looking for a more observational astronomy forum, but perhaps not surprisingly, I found many of the topics here intriguing so added it to my bookmarks.

My background is not particularly strong in pure science or math as I work in IT, which now-a-days is pretty common place, though I do have a BS in Computer Science.

I do remember reading Eric Von Daniken type books when I was a teen, and have always wondered if there wasn’t something more than what the mainstream told us, however I also feel I am quick to see through such charlatans for what they are. I guess I at times kind of feel like Agent Mulder from the old X-Files series in that I want to believe, but I always end up being disappointed when the facts manifest themselves.

Anyway, I will probably be popping in here and there in the near future weighing in various topics, so hope to see you all around

Hi Number 6, welcome to BAUT.

If you are interested in Von Daniken, there is a discussion about the topic currently going on in Life in Space.

Welcome to BAUT Number 6!

I also was here looking aBAUT for quite a while before actually registering. It's weird feeling like you already sort of know people when you arrive in a community, isn't it?

Anyway, have fun!

*argh! Swift... always one step ahead of me. Next time...

Cheers Irish, welcome to BAUT.

This forum is a great place to chat about particular scopes and get observing ideas, suggestions, etc.

Hi irish! Welcome to BAUT!

If you're here to learn, the people here are fantastic. In the actual science threads I usually find everything I want to say has already been said far more succintly than I could.

Also, if you're prone to a little fun on the side, as am I, fun'n'games is a wonderful world of whimsy!

I feel very old, as I'm past 55 ;-(

I used to be an engineer and IT professional, but I'm now going back to school to get a certificate to teach physics.
