Learn to use it as a 'scope first!

The learning curve for astrophotography is very steep!

Reckon I ought to be polite and do the intro thingy, even if I've already been bugging people for some time...

So, what is this "Hlafordlaes" moniker, anyway?

Hlaford is a later form of Old English "Hlaf-gard," or "guardian of the loaf," and is the origin of the word "Lord." "-laes" is the old spelling of "-less." So, it means "Lordless," free-lance, ronin, or in my particular case, a dude with a serious lack of loaf.

Not to be confused with loafing, I got plenty of that.

I am semi-retired and always unretiring so I can buy stuff. Do both consulting and own a bar near the port in Barcelona. I must say, I never thought I'd be so good at tossing ruffians around, being slight and...old, no older, well getting on.

If you meet any other linguists/MBAs with an attitude, send 'em my way.

Default Hi!

Hi guys and gals, I'm Marko from Finland. I'm not an astronomer or a scientist, but I consider myself to be a somewhat enlightened layman. I might post occasionally about something, but mostly I probably will just lurk most of the time.

Sorry for the belated intro -- I've already butted into a couple of ongoing threads without introduction, so I'm taking care of that here. I've been a lurker for quite some time, but finally decided to stick my nose in. I've learned a great deal from the many smart folks here, and look forward to learning yet more.

Welcome, Милости просим, y bienvenido a Geo Kaplan.

(Just trying to pretend I'm tri-lingual, though I only know maybe two words in Russian, and only enough Spanish to call myself 1.5-lingual. )

Большое спасибо. Thankfully, Russian does not seem to be the official forum language -- as an American, I'm monolingual (at best), and struggle with intransigent verbs and moody subjunctives. But I am fond of foreign languages, even if I'm incompetent at speaking them.

Well hello there!

Figured I'd have to register at some point. I guess we'll see how active I'll be here, since I already frequent about a gazillion other forums.

Name's Eskil, I'm from Norway and I'm a musician and a nerd. Not much in the way of formal training in any of the two fields, but that doesn't stop me from enjoying them both immensly. My primary instrument is drums and my primary geeky interest is astronomy and the big mind-boggling issues concerning the nature of time and space and so on.

Aaaanyway, nice to be here and you may or may not hear from me later

I guess I'll pimp out my music page, since I'm here and everything:

G'day from Australia,
Astronomy/Space is my main interest, plus archaeology with Egypt as the main field of study.

I was a member and secretary of the Astronomical Society of Victoria in Australia. I built two telescopes both reflectors: 8in f56 and a 6 in wide field. I can't use them now - shocking obs conditions.

I also love airplanes and have an MS FS9 flight simulator on my computer with full Saitek controls.

Good evening Ladies & Gentlemen,
I'm a retired (Local 115 Operating Engineers) heavy equipment operator, live 30 miles east of Vancouver, Canada. I have always been keenly interested in astronomy. I stumbled onto this site and just couldn't stop reading the various threads so decided to join.
Cheers
Gitpik

Default All about me ...

Hey all. some of you know me over on Cloudynights.com as werewolf6977, Lord High smasher. I've been active on CN coming up on 6 years now. I've a small herd of scopes, some ep's, and a 5'2" redhead fireball. I lvoe to watch the tube and find the mistakes out there. Like in a shoot'em up, I count rounds expended. did you know on TV, a .38 snubnose fires about 27 rounds, and knock a Mil-024 down at 2 miles? Actually, it's 6 rounds and i'd rather have a pocketful of rocks myself.

Welcome, mattmon.
The Urantia Book isn't a science book; what science it contains dates from the 1950s, and some of it has since turned out to be wrong.

mattmon, I have merged your thread in with the general introduction thread. Please take time to read the rules, especially the one concerning religion and Against the Mainstream ideas.
