JayUtah comes immediately to mind. I'm aware of a few other aerospace engineers (though their names escape me at the moment) who frequent CT on a regular basis.

We also have chemists and biologists and geologists and teachers/professors and obviously at least one linguist. Then there's people with no particular degree, but with immeasurable experience in various fields/topics.

I'd like to think that at BAUT, the answers to your questions are only limited by certain restrictions on subjects. If it weren't for the rules, I'd wager you could ask anything (that's answerable) and get a decent response.

Is this a fun question, ...Phoenix?

He opens the batting for me, everytime, in my cricket team, as it were.

What's his field/subject of interest?

And no, it's not a "fun" question. I'd just like to know the professionals around here.

Depends on what you are looking for, ...Phoenix, to answer.
I could name you, point you to, a few distinguished astrophotographers who grace this forum here.

Try Antoniseb too!

Let's put it this way...counting 'expert heads', there would be more than the fingers and toes, that you and I have got, plus a dozen other BAUTzens'.

Dude, I meant this question: "What's his field/subject of interest?", in which his refers back to ToSeek.

Oh, you could touch base with ToSeek yourself. Not difficult.

Board members are under no obligation to share with you. Try looking at their profiles, if it's not there then ask.
Why is it important?

I believe it's considered important because it's important to know who really knows what they're talking about versus who's just kind of spouting. Now, I will say that professional is not necessarily what it takes to know things. There are more than a few qualified amateurs. Still, it is nice to know people's fields of expertise. I don't understand why people don't get that.

Well, I don't get it.
And I don't understand why you don't understand why I don't get it.

(And, while that may look like someone seizing the opportunity to make a smart remark, it's actually sincere.)

When I want to know something about the law, I ask Geonuc, because I know he knows. Aerospace engineering, Jay. Particle physics, Eta C. Googling, obviously, ToSeek. This holds true even if it's just a little thing I don't want to start a thread about. I actually have sent PMs to people to ask questions, and it's nice that I know who to ask. And, indeed, it's nice to know that, if they don't know it themselves (himself, in most cases!), they know where I should look to find the answer. Indeed, I have gotten more than a few PMs on grammar, film, and mental health issues. Sometimes, it's because it's as simple as "I'm looking for this movie; do you know what it's called?" Sometimes, it's because it's deeply personal. But people know to ask me. Since the board, mysteriously, isn't just about me, knowing others' expertise can also be handy.

I list of who knows what would be nice (but here, I'm afraid there's not enough server space for such a list!), but the more useful knowledge can really only come from spending time here and getting a feel for who knows what, and who you prefer to talk to from a personality standpoint. Can't really make a list of that.

And that's why most people who has a mental list of experts in various areas have built it based on what those people wrote previously rather than on any claimed expertise.
This is why naming experts is a hard question to answer meaningfully, since we have many people who are knowledgeable, but not so many who can explain that knowledge in a useful way and which way is useful depends on the person who asked the question.

Yeah, expertise is something that becomes evident (or non-evident) as time goes by, I think. (Yours, for instance, is evident. )
And there are many posters here with evident expertise, whom I'll consult if clamant need arises and I feel I'm not being a nuisance to them. But Fiery Phoenix's original question was about who had (and by exclusion, didn't have) a degree. Now, I honestly have no idea if you have a degree or what it might be, but knowing that you had one (or didn't have one, or had several) wouldn't revise my opinion of your expertise.
I get "expertise"; I don't get "degree".

Edited to agree with Henrik's remarks above, too. I can think of a couple of evidently very clever and no doubt well-degreed folk who've passed through here, who did run into difficulties with the whole "explanation" thing.

Are non-people people different?

I get "expertise"; I don't get "degree".
And you'll note I have myself avoided the word. "Degree" is a handy one; "professional" is not necessary--or I can be an expert in nothing! I do think that those who have degrees in a subject usually know more than those who do not, simply because they'll have immersed themselves in the subject for long enough to get the thing. On the other hand, my degree is not in etymology, for example, but I've been versed in it since . . . well, a very long time ago. I certainly don't have a degree in psychology or film. However, I have consistently been arguing the point for expertise, which is surely what Fiery Phoenix was hoping for. I have noticed (no offense meant, FP) that those not so steeped in amateur studies don't recognize that the degree or profession are not strictly the same as expertise--though I will note that it's hard to have the degree or profession without the expertise.

They have to recruit young, before they get out there and realize how crappy the pay is compared to the inherent danger in the job.

You know guys...if you come to my house ( in the Philippines) and try to talk to me in "tagalog" and its wrong, promise, I will not make fun of it nor ridicule you, I'll even correct your tagalog w/ a cheerful smile...that's how hospitable we Filipinos are but we're sometimes as sensitive as you are, so be more "humane" to me (is that a good choice of English word?)

Have you not been treated well outside of the ATM forum? An ATM thread has its own set of rules and it can seem a bit rough, but posters on BAUT are usually pretty humane.

I started this thread. In my own opinion, I find this forum too rigid and strict and not recommendable for undergraduates and lay man like me. Maybe due to my lack of understanding in higher math and developments in science. But this forum made me more mature. Now I am using the internet and doing my own research. I took out back my dusted book in trigonometry and reviewing my knowledge in math. (In fact, I am a college undergrad, BS-Education, major in math before I became a tv repairman). I started my blog in rough road and even given that a title, "No need to be super genius to prove gravity is not a force", a naughty way to take attention of my prospective readers. Now, it is getting better and beautiful. I realized that I should give high respect and cautious considerations to people in this field of science that they are indeed painstakingly trying their best to understand the universe. Thank you very much.

W/out realizing one's mistakes it will not make me do, some editing and upgrading in that articles. In addition, this forum made me more careful in my english grammar, although it still need more refinement. Thank you very much for all the people who enlightened me for their constructive comments. I will also include those ridicules and nasty criticisms, they are part of a battle in this arena. Next time, would you give me permission to start a new thread in title " Silly Questions That Need Serious Answers", for guys like us? My first question would be " How infinite Infinities are? Oooppss...just Joking. "MABUHAY KAYO"
