I'm generally in favor of any system that makes the moderators job easier, so uniform sentencing guidelines makes sense to me.

I have no doubt that our ever resourceful membership will be able to compensate for this in other ways.

Absolutely untrue, at least for this moderator. ATM is too scary for me. I'm just experienced enough to know what will happen. Doesn't mean I'm wishing for it.

One of the nice things about not being a mod is not having to go to ATM or CT!

Just out of curiosity, were you a moderator at one point?

One of the many complaints that we have received about moderation is that it is inconsistent, because of the use of human moderators who make judgment calls. This system doesn't really change that, since a moderator still needs to make a decision on if there is an infraction and how severe it is. But on the flip side, once that decision is made, the punishment (number of points) will be consistent.
Exactly, this would seem to be a very good method of eliminating "knee-jerk" suspensions from moderators. Not that such have been common in the past, but neither are they, and other inconsistencies without example. Rather than immediate suspension with little or no appeal and no prior, specific individual warning, individuals can and should be able to see infraction points and notices accumulating giving them and the moderators a chance to reconsider and think about their involvement. Looks like a move for the better to me, though I'm sure there are probably bugs to be worked out and tweaks to make.

How will this new point system affect ATM.

It is wild there and should be. If an OP gets two hits, they will stop ATMing. Just two more and they are gone for life.

If the mainstream gets hits, they will be afraid to ask questions.

With Q&A this makes sense, but it seems too strict for ATM.

Is it possible to consider less rigid standards for ATM?

They can wait until their infraction expires, or, radical thought though it is, not break the rules while discussing their idea.

What does break the rules mean?

I was suspended one time because it was asserted I did not answer questions in an understandable format.

I understood it.

I don't see how you calculate "two hits, they will stop ATMing". It depends on what the violations are and how severe they are.

It is an absolutely appropriate system for ATM. Heck, it was put in place for ATM. We probably do as much moderation in ATM as we do in the rest of BAUT combined.

I have no interest in considering less rigid standards for ATM.

Here is why.
The basic numbers are as follows: 1 point for the first offense, 2 for the second, 7 for the third, and 12 for the fourth. Thresholds are 3 for a 3-day suspension, 5 for a 7-day suspension, 8 for a 14-day suspension, and 12 for a perma-ban.

I read this as 4 hits and you are gone. Two hits takes 3 months to remove them.

I would walk away from an ATM at 2 hits.

Also I read, warnings are now gone and replaced with points.

That means 2 warnings to me and you need to leave 3 months or risk a complete ban.

Perhaps you could explain to me what bothers you mods over there.
I have no interest in breaking your rules.

I'm sure you did, but the intent is "understandable to the person reading it," not "understandable to the person writing it." I could write all of my posts in a secret code which only I understand, but it wouldn't count were I trying to answer questions in a timely fashion.

Let's not derail this thread with that discussion. There is already an ATM Rules thread in the Feedback forum. If that one doesn't work for your questions, please start a new one.

Although I stay out of ATM, it is not because I am afraid of banning. I used to participate there and at CT regularly, but I got tired of doing the research to refute every PBI (partly baked idea). I never found it difficult to stay within the rules (and out of trouble).
