Unhappy Issue Bothering Me To The Point Of Sleepwalking

For three days my consious has been bothering me terribly. To the point of sleep walking. As I didn't seem to get called on the issue I tried to keep quiet about it but sometime during last nights round of sonambulism I chipped my front teeth. The two upper middle incisors and all four lower incisors. Chipped the tops off them, I suspect from biting something inanimate.

Yes, I adopted an aggressive stance towards Halcyon.

It was in response to perceived grave insults, three in the space of two posts. After that I was indeed, out to get him.

And then after he left the forum, I went back to the offending posts so I could provide a link in a PM I was going write to Peterscreek, who questioned me on it earlier, as to why I was mad at Halcyon.

And in doing so I saw that Halcyon was NOT the offending poster! (No, I'm not saying who. It's a dead issue now.)

Unbelievable! I have no idea how such a thing could happen! A complete mis-rememberance.

I helped ruin Halcyon's BAUT experience on purpose, something I myself love, for no good reason at all. And it's eating me up.

You could possibly see if the mods still have his email address and ask them to forward an apology.

Well, Don, as far as I know, Halcyon isn't banned or suspended. Perhaps if you sent her a PM she'd get an e-mail notification?

You made a grave error, but now the only thing you can do is make what amends and/or overtures you can. Chipping teeth and losing sleep over it solves nothing and gains nothing. You have just had one heck of an experience to learn from, for sure!

I am sorry to hear this happened, and I hope you can resolve it.

Write her a PM with a mea culpa type of title and first line so she might see it right away before discarding it in an email alert. BTW, THY is a she.

As for sleepwalking, have you considered a yap-yap kinda dog? It worked in a recent episode of Mercy.

sheesh...

If I walked in my sleep and chipped teeth everytime I ticked someone off here, I'd be in Jersey toothless by now.

Can't find a whole lot by Google - one site, but she doesn't seem to be terribly active there.

Sending one suggestion by PM.

I once woke up the morning after a particularly spirited party to find that a significant portion of one of my molars was missing. I asked the various friends I had been escorted home by and none of them remembered me doing anything that would have resulted in such an injury, nor did I at any point return from being out of their sight complaining of having just broken my mouth. Of course, I also hadn't been to the dentist in something like 2.5 years, so perhaps it was just the universes way of giving a dentist a down payment on a new car.

(As an aside, my lack of complaints is not necessarily a good proof, given my ancestry, that I didn't at some point fall down and break my teeth while by myself. My grandmother once broke her hip after falling out of a chair. But rather than complain, or call someone for help, she simply crawled her way back into the chair and waited for someone to happen by. She didn't want to be a nuisance, you see. The someone who happened by turned out to be me, coming home from school for lunch, at which point I was confronted with the highly suspicious question: "Do we still have those crutches from when your cousin broke his ankle?" Which prompted me to respond: "Maybe in the garage...why?" This got her to finally come clean and admit that well, maybe she fell out of the chair and now she kinda couldn't move her leg, but lets not make a big fuss out of this. I insisted that, Yes, let's make a fuss about this. In the end she got a nice new metal head on her femur. So, that in mind, what's a mere chipped tooth when you come from that sort of stock.)

More on topic, I don't think you should feel guilty for THY's leaving Don. You may have played some part in it, but from her goodbye post it sounds like she would have been unhappy here even without your perceived slights. The part of her goodbye in which she says that everyone is either going to ignore her leaving or make snide remarks suggest to me that she really felt the whole boards were out to get her. Your stance toward her may not have helped, but you didn't make her leave, and there's probably nothing you could have done to make her stay, given how persecuted she seemed to feel, so don't beat yourself up over it (or, more appropriately, don't try and chew through your door frames for it).

That's not to say that apologizing isn't a good idea, especially if your attitude towards her was the result of a mistake on your part. But I think even if you had figured this out last week and apologized, she still would have left.

Thatīs not saying I donīt regret THYīs leaving.

You're a good man, Don, not everyone would feel as bad after something like this. I like the idea of sending a PM as THY may have it set up so she gets an email notification. Even if she doesn't want to come back (I hope she does), at least you will be able to apologise and let her know how you feel.

As an aside, I would be interested in knowing more about this sleepwalking business - perhaps you could open a thread in OTB.

I just want this to be a bad dream. I hadn't seen any of what led up to it.

If there's one positive thing to take away from this, then it's the valuable lesson to never post when angry. Take a walk, do something else, wait a couple of hours, let it stay on the backburner of your mind for a bit. Think about it for a while. Consider if something you find offensive was really intended to be offensive. Consider that the other party might misunderstand something. Then post when you're calmer, and double check facts and claims before clicking submit. Or don't post, report instead. Whatever works best for a post that got you heated up.

Kept me out of trouble a couple of times.. and sometimes I didn't do this when I should have.

Nick, I think yours might be the best bet.

When Hal quit out she turned her PM's off. I tried to tell her then.

Chris, Argos, if this was something I could suppress, by definition it wouldn't be bothering me to this extent.

Ara, I live in a no pets apartment. Things that have to live in tanks aren't pets, according to insurance companies. They are decorations. Else you couldn't keep aquaria in offices.

James, I remember that! (James lives a couple blocks from me in the Real World. His grandmother is the mother of six of my closest friends. I've known her longer than James has.) I was quite distressed when she broke her hip.

Arnold - she killed the pm system.

Nev- Maybe it might be because I'm not a digestive system terminus.

Pipe - what do you want to known about stress induced sleepwalking? It sucks.

Jeff - I'm with you and feel the same way.

Slang - exactly what I would have said if the situation had been reversed.

Sorry Don, my intention was not to make light of what is clearly a serious issue and I wholeheartedly apologise if that's how it came across. There's a phrase somewhere about keeping silent and having people think you're a fool, and opening your mouth and having people know for sure you're a fool, and I think I just proved that one. Apologies again.

Easy, Mr. Dream, sorry that came off as snappish.

Meant to be more of a "over a pitcher of beer" statement of fact than a snarl. Sorry. Next rounds on me.

I'll echo what someone else said: You're a good man.

Any luck with a mod forwarding an apology? Even if THY never responded, at least you cast your bread on the waters, which is all we can do. Beyond that, everything else is up to the other person.

Don, he is a she, and, while your posts were part of why she left, they weren't the entire reason. I appreciate that you did not intentionally wreck THY's BAUT experience, and I know you are a good person.

I'll relay your apology to THY. Whether she comes back or not is up to her.

In the meantime, stop wearing your teeth out!

Heee!!

As an inveterate tooth-grinder to the point of my dentist making comments on it, I feel Don's pain--literally.
