Occams Ghost has been too free with the ad homs, and not very forthcoming with the answering of questions. This after some previous warnings.

Eric Vaxxine is out for a week for starting a game, and immediately diving into politics. This may seem harsh, but a. he knew he was doing something over the line, as evidenced in his first post, and b. he's been here long enough, and been in trouble before.

If he/she believes that he/she really does possess an interest in astronomy, and is not just interested in insulting everyone else interested in astronomy, he/she can email Fraser or Phil and make the case.

ATKINS has a week off for failing to answer direct pertinent questions in the ATM section, as pertains to the Stardust thread. ATKINS has a longish history of this kind of thing, so was not simply given a warning.

JimJast has been suspended for two days for repeatedly promoting his ATM idea and website in mainstream sections of the forum. There seems to be no way to get him to understand our concerns, or to respond to private messages. So we suspended him to get his attention.

Motor Daddy has been suspended for a week for Rule 13 and Rule 14 violations. On the outside, he appears to be a troll, who's main purpose is to ask people with a science-bent to explain things without making any assumptions to an absurd level (such as the ratio of a circle's diameter and circumference is a constant).

The net effect is that he/she is violating rule 14 (disruptive behavior).
I found this tidbit a little troubling:

At the end of this one week suspension, I invite Motor Daddy to PM me or any of the moderators to explain what his/her intent here is, and give some plausible justification for the behavior so far, or at least express an understanding of why behavior is problematic AND a promise to follow a much less disruptive course from here on.

Motor Daddy has been suspended for one month. Following his return from a one week suspension, he immediately violated BAUT Rules by opening a second thread on the same topic in ATM, ignoring outstanding questions in the first thread.

EDIT BY TOSEEK: The length of the suspension was because this was far from the first offense. If it had been a first offense, the poster would have been let off with a warning.

I have been in communication with the individual responsible for these. He didn't understand the rule about sock puppets, so I've restored user "Paul Leeks" with the understanding that he'll confine himself to that identity in future. I didn't see any genuine sock puppet abuse of the multiple identities.

Warren Platts has been suspended for one day. This suspension is based on complaints about his behavior in a broad way (the complaint is that he is overly disrespectful to the other members, and uses childish allegories to characterize their knowledge base and arguments).

This suspension is simply to keep Warren Platts from posting anything more until I make a more informed choice about how to handle the situation. I may be releasing the suspension in a few hours, or extending it depending on what I find.

Post edit: after review, I don't believe that what Warren has posted warrants a suspension, and is even marginal for a warning. I am asking all involved to try to be more considerate of the others in the threads he's involved in. Apologies to Warren Platts for putting him on ice for several hours.

IoNsmasher was a sock puppet. I have removed all of his/her posts, including the entire Red Spot Jnr thread. Some of IoNsmasher's other posts may have left some dangling content for other more responsible members (Floating Lunar Dust, Lightning on Venus, etc). Sorry for any confusion this may cause.
