There have been five well-documented mass extinctions during the past 540 million years.

A fast runner, assuming he could get enough traction in the low gravity, should be able to run into orbit around Phobos, according to Heinlein (The Rolling Stones).

In the UK during WWII, civilian criminals were hung with a new rope, but war criminals were all hung with the same rope, which was carried in a briefcase by the executioner.

I'd prefer to be hung with an old rope--I might just walk away from that one!

Some people wound up at the end of their rope, others at the end of someone elses'.

There is a story in which a single colorful furry fuzzball that purrs, small enough to hold in the hand, is brought aboard a ship, but little did they know, it reproduces asexually very fast and eats just about anything and everything it can get to. Nope--not Star Trek's "Trouble with Tribbles" but about 15 or so years earlier than that: Heinlein's "The Rolling Stones".

According to a recent worldwide poll, the three most popular political leaders on the planet are Gordon Brown (UK), Hu Jintao (China) and Vladimir Putin (Russia). The only thing those three have in common is that none of them were elected to their current positions.

Larry Niven wrote at least one episode of "Land of the Lost"--in his episode, the inhabitants discover the "lost" space is a 3-d torus--climb the highest mountain and you can see your own back. Follow the river, and it goes in a circle (yet somehow still flows...). A later episode by another writer shows that "lost" space is a torus along the time dimension as well--at the same time the Marshall family escapes, the Marshall family (younger version) goes over the falls and enters the land. However, the entire series is not quite consistent enough to claim this would always be "truth" in every episode. ETA: and no explanation of how Chaca gets "young again" in this loop

An unintended fact: There is (or was) a rock band named Scared of Chaca...in honor of Chaca.

The intended fact to share: Ted Knight (most famously known as "Ted Baxter" on The Mary Tyler Moore Show) was a WWII hero. He was decorated 5 times for bravery.

A Land of the Lost movie is currently in production. For some reason.

Name the little kid that ruined the Star Wars prequels: George Lucas.
