I'd hazard that one of their hit singles included the line, "Money for nothing, and the chicks for free..."

ie, "I want my MTV."

Regardless if this is correct or not, I liked the band.

Oh, it's interesting alright. I also think I heard it somewhere. I just don't have a clue .

No, Dire Straits were not an Australian band, though i'd gladly claim them

Anyway, to answer Mr Obvious, it's not that i'm not interested, it's just too hard for me

Hmm okies. Here's another hint, and if it doesn't work out, I'll try another question. Sorry!

This German born electrical engineer worked with alternating current.

re:Tesla, Italian - really? Wiki says he was born in Austria and then came to the US. His parents were affiliated with Serbian Churches.

The answer to my question is Charles Proteus Steinmetz. You can read brief bios including the anecdote at these sites:
http://venus.ece.ndsu.nodak.edu/old_.../steinmetz.htm
http://inventors.about.com/od/astart.../Steinmetz.htm

So how about I try again?
There's a well-known shipping company whose logo has an arrow in it. Which one, and where's the arrow? NB - semi-trick question...

Okay, I guess I'm not a terribly good quizmaster. A bit longer and perhaps I'll simply ask someone else to pose a question.

Hint: when I say it's a semi-trick question, I don't mean that it's metaphysical. Once you see it, it's pretty apparent. I also don't mean that the well-known shipping company is well-known, but only in Madagascar. It's world-wide, so there aren't that many options.

Congratulations, Pinemarten. Extra credit for the Arrow Cargo find - I didn't know about them and was somewhat worried that there might be other answers. But yes, once you see the FedEx arrow, it kinds of feels like the right answer.

So, it's your turn to ask a question. Please do!

When does 160/128 not equal 1.25? No, too easy.

An ancient King killed a man for discovering something useful, because it threatened his 'bank account'. It wasn't rediscovered until the 1800s, and would have been quite useful in the meantime.

Edit: I just noticed it was actually an emperor not a king.

I thought someone would guess that, but no. It was a Roman emperor.

While your second link is in English, I can't find out what this discovery was that led to a murder. Can you please clarify? Also, since no one can claim this round, you should post a new puzzle. Thanks!
