The term crowbar is named after its resemblance to the feet or beak of a crow.
The true crows are large passerine birds that form the genus Corvus in the family Corvidae. Ranging in size from the relatively small dove-sized jackdaws to the Common Raven of the Holarctic region and Thick-billed Raven of the highlands of Ethiopia, the 40 or so members of this genus occur on all temperate continents and several offsh... , with a history that traces to at least 1400. They were first called crow bars and later the two joined into one word. They also were called crows; William Shakespeare was an English people poet and playwright, widely regarded as the greatest writer in the English language and the world's preeminent dramatist....used the term crow in many places, including his play Romeo and Julie.
