This shouldn't be that obscure, it's been on APOD at least three times.
I have now bolded every word in my previous post which was an oblique hint.

Me playing with a sparkler...that's it! Good job.

Okay, okay....it's not that. It's a computer simulation of particle tracks resulting from the decay of a Higgs boson. (allegedly)

Ok, Its a Mandlebrot Set
So Jay200 had it right that it was a fractal Set

Here is a link about the mandlebrot, weird and intersteing
It does make a pretty peacock feather as well

Glad you posted the answer because I went crazy yesterday trying to find it. What really frustrated me was that I had read about this about a month ago but could not remember its name or where I had read it. In any case, that was a good one. One thing I like about this thread is its hard to cheat by googling up an answer. You have to recoginize the image or do some deeper research. It also gives you a visual which is better than just words.

What spacecraft is this?

Dang, I was going to guess Mandelbrot but it looks really different than the usual Mandelbrot image. Good one.

Endeavor, your spacecraft is the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter.

Okay everyone, what are we looking at here:

Hah, no way. I found it on Google Images.
Photographer is one Ali Majdfar.

I'd say it's Chrissy's turn since she answered correctly.
