Going from point A to point B isn't always a straight line =P

What is the source of your confusion: why one would do this, how is it physically possible, ???
If your confusion is how can light go slower, remember the speed of light is an upper limit (it is actually the speed of light in a vacuum). Any piece of glass slows down the light going through it.
